Departmental Mission:
As a key component for faculty and student success within the College's Academic Services division, Learning Resources dynamically integrates library and tutoring services into one centralized department that supports the mission of developing and sustaining innovation in research, learning, and technology; fostering and supporting intellectual curiosity, academic independence, and student achievement; and establishing and nurturing strong partnerships and connections with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
Position Expectations:
As a vital part of Learning Resources, the New Initiative Program (NIP) provides academic support to students seeking an A.S. degree, certificate or diploma in the many health programs offered at SPC. Our services include professional tutoring and tips in study skills including time management, test taking strategies, and overcoming test anxiety. Our main focus is on student success and retention.
In this role, the Sr. Instructional Support Specialist will:
Provide clear explanation of basic and advanced concepts of Anatomy and Physiology and prefer the ability to apply these concepts to pathophysiology to assist students enrolled in health programs
Tutor students in one-on-one formats, which involves: assessing student needs in order to facilitate and maximize tutoring sessions, obtaining and utilizing appropriate course materials, such as course syllabi
Work well with students from diverse educational, cultural, and social backgrounds and with those of varying abilities
Compile, design, and deliver instructional materials in individual, group, and online settings
Continue to learn new course content to remain relevant to the needs of health program students along with learning new systems and processes adopted by SPC
Focus on customer service in an open, busy, collaborative, student-centered learning facility
Assist manager with preparation of grant reports and data entry
Successful candidate should be able to change schedules on a semester-to-semester basis, as needed, to cover departmental needs.
Please note: This position is partially funded by the Carl D. Perkins Career & Technical Education Program grant, which has been in place at St. Petersburg College for over 30 years.
Position Summary:
This class is the second of four levels in the Instructional Support series. Incumbents develop and maintain tutoring support lessons and materials for courses and promote tutoring services. Responsibilities may include developing resource materials for tutors; tracking tutoring services; training less experienced tutors; specializing in unique tutoring services (eg. learning disabilities); and performing the duties of the lower level.
