Our core business, producing plastic resins and petrochemicals, takes place at three wholly-owned chemical manufacturing subsidiaries located in Delaware City, Delaware, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Point Comfort, Texas.

Sr. Industrial Hygienist

This position can sit in Livingston, NJ or Point Comfort, Texas

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Executes the planning, design and implementation of the Corporate Personal Safety & Industrial Hygiene and Loss Control programs to ensure compliance with all state, Federal and corporate regulations, policies and procedures. Provides expert technical support to all company locations. Provides substantial support to the company's Product Stewardship Program for all product lines.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

Projects constitute the majority of the workload and are largely self-initiated. Exercises initiative, originality and sound judgment in applying engineering and project management theories and practices to ensure effective solutions to safety/IH concerns. Work is performed independently or with minimal supervision.

Reviews corporate operations for comparison to established procedures to determine compliance with laws and regulations. Based upon knowledge of organizational goals and constraints, makes major decisions and substantial commitments of manpower, funds and material.

Chronic non-conformance by operating units requires unique and innovative solutions. The individual is capable of solving such with a minimum of direction.

Participates as a member of internal audit teams to develop improved procedures for safety monitoring and compliance. May act as technical representative for national industry associations.

TECHNICAL JOB CRITERIA

10 years' experience in plant safety I IH or corporate safety/IH. Knowledge of Food and Drug Regulations (food packaging) and/or Product Stewardship requirements desirable.

Technical Skills Required To Perform This Job

Most of the following: Hazwoper Supervisor & Trainer, Hazmat Supervisor, OSHA Compliance, Radiation Safety Officer, Asbestos Supervisor, HazCom Trainer, TSCA Coordinator, Loss Management, and PSM training.

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Experience in database management desirable, e.g. Microsoft Access.

Education

Bachelor of Science or Engineering Degree, 4 year (B.S.), or Degree in Public Health specialized in Occupational Health & Safety with 7-10 years of applicable experience.

Other Certification/Training Required To Gain Function-Related Technical Knowledge

Hazmat training, General Safety Training, PHA training.

Other Requirements

Travel to plant sites is required on a regular basis 10-25%.

Physical Abilities Required

A. Climbing, ascending or descending ladder, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.

B. Balancing, maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.

C. Stooping, bending body downward and forward by bending spine and waist. Example: Catching Samples.

D. Kneeling: bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

E. Crouching bends the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

F. Crawling, moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.

G. Reaching, extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

H. Standing, particularly for sustained periods of time.

I. Walking, moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.

J. Pushing, using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.

K. Pulling, using upper extremities to exert force in order to drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

L. Lifting, raising objects from a lower to higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.

M. Fingering, picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather that the whole hand or arm as in handling.

N. Grasping, applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm.

O. Feeling, perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature of texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

P. Talking, expressing, or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words.

Q. Hearing, perceiving the nature of sounds with no more than a 40 db loss @ 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz, and 2,000 Hz with or without correction, Ability to receive verbal communication and to make fine discriminations in sound such as when making adjustments on machined parts.

R. Repetitive motions, substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Visual activity required:

Keep in mind that color, depth, perception and field of vision is pertinent to requirements.

A. Machine operation, inspection, close assembly, clerical and administrative duties.

B. Machine operation and skilled trades, use of lathes, drills, presses, power tools, where seeing that a job is at or within arms reach.

C. Mobile equipment operations, operate cars, trucks, buses, fork lifts, cranes, and high lift equipment.

D. Other criteria based on accuracy and neatness of work.

E. Position requires individual to differentiate colors, depth, and perception.

Conditions subjected to this position:

A. Inside environmental conditions protected from weather conditions not necessarily room temperature conditions.

B. Outside environmental conditions, no effective protection from weather.

C. Inside and outside conditions, no effective protection from weather.

D. Subject to extreme cold, temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour.

E. Subject to extreme heat, temperatures above 100 degrees for periods more than one hour.

F. Subject to noise, causing reason to shout in order to be heard above the noise.

G. Subject to vibration, exposure fluctuation movements of the body.

H. Subject to hazards such as moving machinery, electrical currents, falling debris, exposure to chemicals, gases, high heat or explosives.

I. Subject to unregulated atmospheric conditions caused by odors, fumes, gases, poor ventilation, and dust.

J. Subject to oils and other cutting fluids via touch or air.

K. Air density conditions causing the use of a respirator.

L. Not exposed to any adverse environmental conditions (usually office work).
