Sr Imaging Scientist


The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Imaging Scientist, are to:

  • Lead complex imaging-based projects and define clear objectives with stakeholders and project teams;

  • Identify and champion new collaborations and project opportunities;

  • Identify and refine proper imaging and detection methods to satisfy project objectives;

  • Collaborate closely with Data Scientists, Core Engineering, Biological Sciences, and Support resources to ensure goals are harmonized and achievable;

  • Demonstrate ownership of imaging data to ensure the highest possible data quality for robust data modeling and production operation;

  • Deliver robust automated image processing routines for extraction ofdescriptive features predictive of good and defective seed;

  • Deliver standardized feature sets extracted from automated image processing as a basis for multivariate modeling of seed characteristics;

  • Collaborate with Data Scientists to assess tradeoffs in accuracy andthroughput based on number of imaging techniques and size of feature sets;

  • Strategize with Software engineering to determine system architecture approaches for integration of automation, image capture, image analysis, and data modeling components;

  • Generate ideas for new imaging hardware and techniques for improved predictive power and deliver integration with automated systems;

  • Generate / deliver project reports, regular updates, budgetary updates, technical documentation, code archival, and IP-related material.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. and seven years experience in engineering or related fields with emphasis in imaging and image processing;

  • Strong demonstrated expertise with multiple imaging techniques, including data acquisition, image processing, and data modeling frameworks;

  • Demonstrated history of collaboration with key stakeholders and definition of project objectives, timelines, and budgets;

  • High demonstrated proficiency with procedural image processing code;

  • Strong demonstrated proficiency with delivery of imaging technologies and image processing methods in automated systems;

  • Demonstrated experience with leading multi-disciplinary project teams;

  • Strong history of executing Deployment and Support handoff strategies;

  • Demonstrated experience of identification and exploration of new imaging technologies and data analysis methods;

  • Experience with starting new collaborations and identifying and refining new project concepts.

Domestic relocation may be provided for this role.
