Position Description

Vocera is looking to hire an energetic, goal-orientated team player to join the Accounting team as a Senior GL Accountant. This position requires an organized, technically proficient accountant with an analytical mind and the ability to learn. The Senior GL Accountant will be responsible for a wide range of accounting activities including preparing and reviewing monthly GL entries and account reconciliations, preparing and updating schedules and analyses for internal and external reporting purposes, interfacing with external auditors and generally supporting the accounting process. The role will also involve collaborating with international accountants and cross-functional teams. The Senior GL Accountant role will report directly to the Senior Manager of Accounting.


  • Responsible for various month-end close including, the preparation of journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations and financial statement variance analysis

  • Own general ledger accounting including, but not limited to, Prepaid Expenses, Intangibles and Accruals

  • Maintain amortization schedules and recurring journal entries

  • Manage the Prepaid Expense and Deferred Rent

  • Coordinate with other departments to obtain transaction information, research reconciling items, and resolve issues

  • Participate in adhoc departmental and cross functional initiatives to optimize and improve financial systems and processes

  • Ensure timely and through completion of all items required by the external auditors in conjunction with the annual financial audit

  • Responsible for SOX compliance activities, including executing internal controls

  • Manage the corporate credit card program


  • Strong analytical skills, creative problem-solving, and ability to summarize conclusions concisely.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to actively and attentively listen

  • High degree of dedication to improvement and strong sense of ownership

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of Word, Outlook and PowerPoint


  • BS in Finance ore equivalent

  • 8 years progressive experience in Finance or Accounting roles

  • Public accounting experience or CPA preferred

  • Familiarity with common accounting issues, financial statement line items and financial metrics/ratios

  • Experience with SAP or similar global ERP system

  • No travel required for this position

This position will play a lead role in month-end and quarter-end close process, Fixed Assets and the Intercompany elimination processes. The position will interface with the company's Financial Planning and Analysis group, Accounts Payable, and other Management groups. In addition, this position will work on deliverables for Quarter, Year-end and Sox Audits, as well as, on ad-hoc analysis and various projects that support the accounting department. * General Ledger responsibilities including, but not limited to Prepaids, Accruals, Consolidations and FX rates. * Responsible for Month-end, Quarter-end and Year-end close procedures. * Prepare Journal entries and account reconciliations for various balance sheet accounts. * Work cross functionally with and support business partners by providing financial insights and relevant reporting. * Assist in process improvement projects * Provide support for the preparation of the 10Q and 10K reports, including assisting SEC team in preparing support schedules. * Ensure SOX compliance by monitoring accounting policies, procedures and internal control. * On an ongoing basis and with a basic understanding of proper accounting practices and controls, maintain the Oracle fixed assets module by setting up project numbers, ensure proper authorization of capital expenditures, process expenditures to assets under construction to final fixed assets, execute depreciation runs * Track in progress projects, verifying in-service dates for capitalization, and assist owners with retirement and disposal of fixed assets according to policy * Assist with Purchasing and Payables to ensure that capital expenditures are tracked accurately from inception to capitalization * Prepare month-end fixed assets reconciliations and rollforward. * Lead the annual physical inventory process to ensure existence of corporate assets * Research and prepare journal entries to record transactions in compliance with GAAP * Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required * CPA a plus * Excellent Verbal and written communication skills * Relevant progressive experience * Detailed understanding of GAAP and financial statement analysis * Oracle R12 experience a plus * Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications * Ability to communicate in small and medium groups comfortably * Detail orientated Equal Employment Opportunity.
