Sr. Firmware Engineer - Mvca

Eaton's ES AMER ARS PDCAD division is currently seeking a Sr. Firmware Engineer - MVCA. This position is located at our Arden, NC facility. Relocation offered to those residing in the US and live outside 50 miles of the Arden, NC facility.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $80250.03 - $117700.04 a year.

The Sr. Firmware Engineer, MVA will perform a wide variety of electrical engineering, firmware, and technical tasks involving the application of engineering skills and knowledge. To assist in the development and maintenance of motor controllers with a focus on firmware and application code used in Eaton's medium voltage motor control products, materials, manufacturing processes, tests, and unique customer applications.

What you'll do:

• Work on assigned projects within a medium voltage motor control product line.

• Develop, validate, and maintain embedded code, following a structured engineering process to assure product quality and reliability. Use software version control repository function using tools such as SVN or GIT.

• Troubleshoot/debug embedded code. Track software and operational "bugs" to closure using collaborate tools such as Jira or Bugzilla.

• Perform and participate in design verification/validation testing on test and product platforms.

• Develop engineering documentation including software requirements specification, software behavior specification, software release notice, design verification test plan, design verification test results, communication protocol compliance specification, product configuration specification, and user interface specification. Familiar with tools such as JAMA, IBM Rational, or Primavera.

• Lead firmware and functional design reviews at various product development stages.

• Be capable of writing articles for trade and technical publications, presenting technical papers and preparing patent disclosures.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution

• One (1) year of experience working with embedded software OR Master's degree from an accredited institution

• Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship now and within the future

Preferred Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of three-phase power systems and power distribution equipment including AC induction motor control.

• Working knowledge of control systems such as AC induction FOC sensorless or encoder based closed-loop.

• Experience programming TI C2000 Digital Signal processors and use of Code Composer Studio, real-time operating systems, as well as ARM cortex microcontroller peripherals including PWM, A->D, and D->A converters, PLD's, and Flash memory.

• Experience with PCB design tools, such as Altium Designer or Siemens Mentor Graphics PADs. Model based design ACG Mathworks Matlab-Simulink Simscape (formerly SimPowerSystems) tools.

• Working knowledge of real-time controller hardware-in-the-loop (RT cHIL) computing and automatic test regression scripting using Python.

• Working knowledge of solid-state semiconductor power electronics including medium voltage variable frequency drives, motor protection relays, and/or reduced voltage soft-starters.

Skills:

• Demonstrated experience in product development including architecture definition, detailed software design, simulation, physical design, verification, and design for manufacturability

• Demonstrated experience in writing programs in the C, C++ language for embedded processors

• Demonstrated experience with multiple industrial communication protocols including Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet IP, and/or CAN/CANOpen.

• Ability to read schematics and interpret the behavior of electronic systems

• Ability to analyze and troubleshoot analog and digital control circuitry

• Ability to analyze and control system algorithms

• Demonstrate sound problem solving skills

• Demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment

• Possess the ability to analyze product failure issues sufficiently to drive them to root cause
