The Mars Wrigley (MW) key sustainability goals, strategies and plans have been agreed and are aligned with the Mars Incorporated outlined in the MW Sustainability Roadmap. Sustainability is fundamental to the delivery of the MW 2030 and Mars Incorporated's strategic business objectives going forward, and business partner with the Cocoa organization.

Mars is seeking a Sr. Finance Manager, MW Sustainability and Cocoa who will be providing robust and consistent forecasting, reporting, and analysis of MW's sustainability and Cocoa financial performance is critical to meeting internal reporting requirements and for compliance with evolving external standards as well. Internally, MW sustainability financial data is an essential input into remuneration processes and management reporting routines, and to inform strategic decisions on investment and business strategies. Externally, sustainability financial and performance data at the Mars Inc. level, inclusive of MW content, will be required to meet extensive regulatory reporting requirements and for voluntary disclosures in multiple major markets- with a particular focus on climate. Additionally, Cocoa is the main commodity and with a very relevant sustainability initiatives and investments.

The MW Sustainability and Cocoa Sr. Finance Manager role is a global position with accountability for:

  • Financial Planning & Reporting: Partner with key stakeholders to ensure that robust performance forecasts and targets related to sustainability investments (Capex, Raw and Pack materials costs, and Overheads) are generated in alignment with required methodologies, accounting, and reporting standards as part of annual (AEP) and long-term business planning processes (IVCP) and connects with key analytics indicators related to sustainability KPIs, in alignment with Mars Inc standards. Supports business decision-making, to enable effective governance, and for use in meeting internal and reporting requirements. Prepares ROI and risk mitigation from a financial lens related to sustainability initiatives. Control Overheads spend for Sustainability and Cocoa organization providing guidance, visibility and establishing a governance model.

  • Systems & Standards: Leads MW engagement with Mars Inc. on sustainability performance data reporting standards, accounting approaches, measurement methodologies, data systems & processes, compliance requirements, and related updates to these aspects over time. Ensures that effective and efficient data systems and tools are in place to enable MW data reporting and tracking.

What are we looking for?

  • Degree in Finance, Business, or Environmental Sustainability is required.

  • 10+ year's experience in Sustainability and/or Financial performance reporting and Data & Analytics as a subject-matter expert, including significant experience in generating, tracking and analyzing quantitative sustainability data. Sustainability expertise or background would be highly preferred.

  • Deep expertise in overseeing financial planning and reporting, including processes & leading strategic dialogues with senior leaders regarding outputs and insights.

  • Highly skilled at generating data reports, analysis, and scorecards for current performance and for future performance forecasts taking into account a range of complex factors and variables and presenting such results effectively to senior leaders.

  • Ability to business partner and facilitate complex and sensitive discussions to influence business processes, governance & systems.

  • Demonstrated creativity in problem solving and the ability to take an idea through to implementation.

  • Very high attention to detail, precision and focus on quality work outputs.

  • An expertise in carbon accounting specifically, or a high willingness & ability to rapidly build carbon expertise once in role is critical, given the high degree of complexity and relevance of this topic to MW and Mars. Specifically, the expertise in carbon accounting, methodologies, and standards is also highly preferred.

  • Travel could be required including occasional international travel - approx. 10% of time.

What will be your key responsibilities?

Role requires expertise in financial reporting and business partnering, excellent capabilities in quantitative analysis and tracking, strong data systems and analytics experience, and demonstrated program oversight and leadership skills.

Reports to Global TLT finance director and serves as a member of the MW Sustainability Working Group, and collaborates with a wide range of Technical leaders, S&F leads, and Data Owners across MW, divisions and Mars. Please note, this role will not have direct reports - this person will lead and regularly convene a team of Data managers/owners in key roles across MW divisions, will coordinate very closely with all relevant Functional teams on actuals reporting, forecasting, and planning, and related to required disclosures and validation. Will be directly managing $500M+ investments in this space.

Financial Planning and reporting:

  • Responsible for partnering with key Technical and S&F teams at the division level as robust performance forecasts (AEP - Annual Plan; and IVCP - Strategic Planning) and targets are generated in alignment with required methodologies, accounting, and reporting standards.

  • Leads MW consolidation of performance forecasts across all core sustainability financial investment and KPIs as part of annual and long-term business planning processes.

  • Generates consolidated MW forecasts and validated targets based on inputs provided for sign-off by relevant Technical and business leaders.

  • Leads on engagement with program leads and regional teams throughout relevant business processes such as IVCP (Strategic Planning), OOP Reporting (Outlooks), and AEP (Annual Plan) to ensure that valid and robust MW performance forecasts are developed and maintained over time.

  • Includes collaboration with relevant segment, division, and Mars Inc corporate teams as relevant to ensure robust forecasted targets are provided, analyzed, and calibrated appropriately as MW input into the overall Mars executive plans.

  • Leads Financial ROI perspective to include growth returns on the demand side as well as enterprise risk management related to financial implications (regulation related or sustainability initiatives in general)

  • Drive the implementation of potential adaptation and changes related to transformation initiatives within the sustainability financial scope, to ensure proper visibility and connectivity of sustainability within the key core organization processes.

  • Business partner with Cocoa organization on main initiatives and financial topics related.

  • Overheads financial control for sustainability and Cocoa organization.

Systems & Standards:

  • Responsibility for developing, deploying and/or maintaining a range of systems and/or tools essential to MW's ability to report forecast related to sustainability financial performance, and serving as coordinator and guide to data owners and relevant technical teams to ensure effectiveness and use.

  • Includes the development and activation of systems and tools that enable MW to assess the financial analysis related to potential new business initiatives, or to compare the relative impact of business scenarios to inform decision-making.

  • Accountable for engagement with Mars Inc corporate sustainability and governance teams on decisions related to MW sustainability financial performance KPI methodologies and changes, accounting standards and changes, other governance decisions or reviews that impact metric definitions or scope.

  • Serves as lead MW point of contact for Mars Inc sustainability financial performance systems development, improvement and/or rollout processes - and coordinates with counterparts in division teams as relevant to ensure effective deployment.
