The NCI-designated Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) is a campus-wide multidisciplinary matrix organization whose goal is to promote and enhance cancer-relevant research and patient care at UC Irvine. The CFCCC provides research resources to its ~175 members engaged in research and offers multidisciplinary cancer care to its patients. Your Role on the Team The principal role of the Senior Financial Analyst is to provide financial management, monitoring, reporting, and analysis (e.g., budgeting, accounting, payroll, purchasing) for assigned areas from multiple complex fund sources including contracts and grants, philanthropic funds and institutional support funds. The Senior Finance Analyst (SFA) is responsible for assigned financial administration matters fulfilling the mission of the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, the University of California Irvine and the overall UC Irvine Health enterprise. The Senior Finance Analyst reports to the Finance Operations Manager (FOM). The SFA works directly with the FOM in prioritizing specific needs related to the Center's fiscal operations and in developing objectives and strategies to cost-effectively meet those needs. The SFA performs high level analysis to aid in the financial planning and strategic management of the CFCCC.The SFA duties include assisting with financial planning and budgeting processes, analyzing financial statements and reports, developing financial models, and performing research and analysis as may be required by leadership. The role will partner across multiple levels of the organization and directly support Center functions. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and organizational policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Contacts are both internal and external to the department. What It Takes to be Successful Required:Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems. Ability to independently gather required information to organize and perform financial analysis assignments. Proven ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner. Proven ability using spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports. Proven interpersonal skills with peers throughout the organization; strong service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Proven ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high-volume environment. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and competing deadlines. Ability to function as a member of a team. Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources. Demonstrated skill to independently analyze situations, interpret complex data, define problems and/or objectives, identify relevant factors, formulate logical conclusions using creativity and innovation in developing recommendations and implanting action plan. Bachelor's degree in business or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience 5-7 years of experience in developing, implementing and controlling budgets from multiple funding sources with direct experience in financial management of Federal, State and industry-sponsored contracts and grants with Bachelor of Science or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred: Ability to effectively use UC/UCI online systems including Kuali Financial System, Kuali Research, ATS, DSS, OnCore, EVAL, Cognos, etc. Demonstrated knowledge of University policies and procedures related to academic and staff personnel. Demonstrated advanced working experience in the business operations of the UCI School of Medicine Experience in preparing and managing proposals for submission and awarded contracts and grants. Experience with NIH ASSIST/RPPR and other relevant programs.
