Sr. Fermentation Scientist- Decatur, IL
This is an exempt level position
ADM Cell Engineering team is seeking a technical leader with deep experience in microbial physiology and fermentation process development. The successful candidate will be responsible for project design and execution, reporting of recommendations to senior leadership and coordinating implementation of process improvements with commercial facilities across a range of ADM products.
Job responsibilities will include:
Leading projects on the development and improvement of fermentation processes, from benchtop-scale through to production scale;
Providing subject-matter expertise in microbial fermentation and physiology;
Developing kinetic, metabolic, and economic models for a variety of products;
Providing thought leadership and intellectual rigor across teams running fermentation experimentation from sub-1 L scale to 1000 L;
Overseeing technology transfers from Research to Operations or CMO's.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated an ability to successfully drive process development projects across a range of fermentation modes, microbial systems, and products through to implementation at commercial scale.
Ph.D. degree or equivalent in fermentation or biochemical engineering.
10+ years of relevant experience in fermentation process development, demonstrating delivery of value to the business through execution of projects.
Subject matter expert in fermentation process development, across a range of industrially-relevant microorganisms and a variety of fermentation processes.
Demonstrated ability to link an understanding of the physiology of microbes and fermentation process improvements.
Demonstrated problem-solving ability, with evidence of innovative thinking.
Experience in project management and technology transfer.
Experience with direct supervision of scientists and technicians.
Excellent written and oral communication skills with both technical and non-technical personnel.
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse, multidisciplinary teams to coordinate the transfer of bench scale knowledge through scale-up to provide value for the business.
