Position Overview

The Sr. Experience Design Manager for Discover-Subscribe at Autodesk is a design leader who inspires great work, nurtures talent, and brings people together in the creation and evolution of experiences customers love. This role requires a strategic mindset, critical thinking, proven leadership experience, a thoughtful approach to organization and collaboration, and execution on behalf of the customer.

Reporting to the Director of Discover-Subscribe, the Sr. Experience Design Manager role is charged with inspiring and fostering a team to deliver best-in-class experiences that enable customers around the world to learn about Autodesk and our portfolio of products, so they try and buy the products that best meet their needs. The role oversees a team of designers and sets the stage for success by aligning the design team on a customer-centered vision, setting clear goals, providing constructive feedback, maintaining accountability, and providing mentorship and advocacy.

The Sr. Experience Design Manager will partner with the Director of Discover-Subscribe to establish ambitious goals to deliver measurable benefits to customers, as well as contributing to corporate and departmental priorities, and guide the design team to achieve results.

Our Team

The Digital Platform Experience (DPE) organization is tasked with creating a best-in-class self-service experience for customers as they evaluate, try, and buy our products; manage their accounts, profiles, and relationships with Autodesk; begin to use the products; and deepen their mastery of the products over time. DPE is also responsible for creating self-service tools to automate internal processes. The Experience Design (XD) team within DPE includes interaction design, visual design, research, and content strategy.


  • Lead the team to develop a holistic customer experience vision for finding and subscribing to Autodesk products

  • Balance long-term vision with guidance and support of work currently in flight

  • Influence and collaborate with design, engineering, and product management functional areas across the company

  • Ensure that projects are appropriately prioritized and staffed

  • Facilitate cross-functional design review of work in progress, provide feedback, encouragement, and inspiration

  • Provide coaching, mentorship and career stewardship for a team of user experience design professionals

  • Ensure that designers are armed with the tools, plans and collaborators necessary to succeed

  • Recruit and retain key talent, potentially including remote staff

  • Translate high-level organizational goals to individual goals

  • Promote a culture of rapid iteration based on insights gleaned from customer research and data analytics

  • Be a thought leader, represent new methods and approaches to your team and the Autodesk design community

  • Stay continuously informed of emerging technologies by following trends and opportunities

Minimum Qualifications

  • 12 years of related professional design and people management experience

  • 5 years of experience managing different aspects of ecommerce experiences, including planning, user research, design, web analytics and web technologies

  • Ability to distill complex ideas, and large amounts of data and viewpoints, to their essence

  • Ability to set priorities and evangelize a shared plan with a wide range of audiences at all levels of the organization

  • Excellent visual and verbal communication skills

  • Up-to-date expertise in human-centered design best practices, customer research, and content strategy

  • Top-notch design-thinking skills to facilitate the creative process

  • Positive, can-do approach that inspires collaboration and rallies the team toward a common goal

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA/BS in interaction design, new media design, or equivalent experience

  • Experience designing multichannel ecommerce experiences

  • Experience with agile software design methods

  • Knowledge of Autodesk products
