The Sr. Environmental Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing an environmental strategy to support the company's Commitment to Zero for the North American chemical sites (Chocolate Bayou, Decatur, Pensacola, and Greenwood) that addresses site specific needs, drives consistency, shares best practices, ensures organizational alignment, and implements companywide initiatives to maintain compliance and reduce environmental footprint. This position will be a key member of the ESSH Leadership Team and will interface with the appropriate ESSH, operations, and technology teams to resolve, implement, and ensure Environmental compliance at the sites.

  • Develop a comprehensive multi-year improvement plan that includes aligning objectives with business and operational imperatives.

  • Develop and sustain strong partnerships with key stakeholders in all functions and has a team viewed as a critical partner to success.

  • Implement measures of performance and rhythms to drive results.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement improvement initiatives to provide real time data used to drive business decisions.

  • Establish and set expectations with environmental policy for the facilities under your management.

  • Track key metrics and implement systems to maintain and improve performance and compliance with all Federal, State, and local regulations/standards.

  • Maintaining a favorable image with communities, regulatory agencies, and other companies through active involvement.

  • Determine and assess the impacts of regulatory requirements and partner with the business team to actively manage regulatory issues to resolution.

  • Partner with Director of Sustainability to support Sustainability Strategy and identify opportunities for energy and resource conservation, waste reduction, and environmental stewardship.

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, advise operations of the expected impact, and adjust compliance programs to meet new/changing requirements.

  • Identify, assess, and reduce environmental risks to the company.

  • Oversee compliance tracking and reporting for multiple environmental programs, including Stormwater, Wastewater, Pollution Prevention, etc.

  • Conduct and oversee environmental compliance audits.

  • Lead, train, and mentor staff members, creating opportunities for their professional growth.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • B.S. degree in an environmental science, engineering field, or related.

  • Advanced degree in the environmental science is a plus.

  • 10+ years of Environmental Management in the Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Petrochemical or Oil & Gas Industry

  • Experience with organization development and changes.

  • Experience in implementing environmental improvements across multiple locations.

  • Thorough knowledge of ISO14000 or similar management systems.

TEAM

Direct reports include Environmental leaders at the sites (Chocolate Bayou, Decatur, Pensacola and Greenwood).

Peers include Process Safety Manager, ESSH Managers at the sites, Human Factors Engineer, and Transportation Compliance Specialist.

LOCATION

Decatur, AL; Pensacola, FL; or Alvin, TX

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Self-motivated individual with the demonstrated ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and standards.

  • Experience in providing sound, strategic business advice, solving complex problems and making tough decisions.

  • Ability to work across multiple functional groups internally and externally i.e., commercial, operations, technology, ESSH, customers, regulatory agencies, and consulting groups.

  • Ability to partner effectively with key leaders to develop and implement a strategy to improve performance.

  • Ability to achieve results through others.

  • Solid proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must be able to quickly learn new technology/software to pull data and create Power BI reports.

  • Strong understanding of ESG, EHS & Sustainability reporting standards.

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate ideas and properly describe problems and solutions. Able to communicate complex and technical information in a way that audiences can quickly understand the issues and opportunities.

  • Experienced in regulatory reports and plans, including those required by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and the Clean Air Act (CAA).

  • Experience with developing and implementation of environmental management systems is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to travel (AL, FL, SC, and TX) (about 25%)
