The Sr. Technical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation and operational maintenance of technology services that support monitoring and event management for our Business Operations across the enterprise.

This position requires a strong technical understanding of complex IT environments and evolving technologies. Responsibilities include implementation of technical solutions to support Global Payments' operational strategies and business requirements associated with Enterprise Monitoring and Event Management.

Job Details:

Responsible for the development and maintenance of operations based on product and services that support of emerging business requirements for Global Payments.

As the Enterprise Technical Engineer, works with Operational Governance to develop and

implement plans and criteria for performance, monitoring, diagnostic and analytics, as well as

identification and utilization of new technologies for 400 business services across the enterprise.

Works with multiple disciplines to establish and support technical policies and procedures to align service availability for both on-premise and and cloud-based directives.

Acts as an advisor and technical consultant on issues related to performance, additional monitoring, event management and analytics techniques to Service Owners.

Advises others how to interpret, adapt and apply standards, principles and techniques to problems and issues involving real time monitoring and event management.

Support the technical requirements of existing monitoring services, while executing business plan objectives to achieve strategic goals.

Comprehension of the IAAS, PAAS and SAAS as well as strategic platforms such as Cloud etc.

Knowledge of key methodologies and frameworks such as DEV/OPS, Agile

Introduce improvements by leveraging automation and innovative approaches.

Ability to coach and mentor resources as appropriate.

Coordinates with monitoring application owners and others who are responsible for creation and updates to monitoring and event management tools.

Provides guidance, support and governance for monitoring, diagnostic, analytics and performance metrics for service availability, trending, etc. to management.

Ability to translate business requirements into technical implementation and operational management.

Ability to coach and mentor resources when needed.

Up to 10% travel, worldwide

Required Knowledge and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or similar field, and/or equivalent work experience

General level knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems and technologies,

Proven experience implementing third party monitoring solutions and involvement of end-to-end operational support

Willing to learn and apply new technologies and methodologies to improve the technology that supports the services, i.e. Robotics and artificial intelligence

Experience in application development or production support a plus

Ability to develop, manage and communicate frameworks

Strong marketing and communications skills.

Strong presentation skills; ability to lead technical discussions

Solid understanding of technologies that support the services offered

Ability to market the technologies supported by the team Develop strategies to achieve business objectives

Firm analytical and problem solving skills


Experience with AppInternals, Rigor, New Relic, Sumo Logic, Zabbix, or Solarwinds monitoring


Experience with Windows and Linux middleware (e.g. IIS, JBoss, Apache)

Experience working with databases (e.g. SQL, Oracle)
