Sr. Engineer, Process Control

The Advanced Process Control (APC) Engineer will work closely with existing APC team members, and the Operations and Technical departments to support the refinery's control system applications. The successful candidate will provide control support for new capital projects, new advanced control applications, existing day-to-day troubleshooting, and field Area Business Team questions. The APC Engineer reports directly to the Lead APC Engineer.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide process control related technical support to area business team as requested.

  • Provide process control related guidance and support for capital projects from design to start-up.

  • Interact with plant operating personnel, Process Engineers, Operations Management to identify, troubleshoot, and improve regulatory and advanced control (DMC) applications.

  • Design and implement process control applications associated with Honeywell process control systems such as TDC2000 Hiway Gateway, TDC3000 APM / HPM, and Experion PKS.

  • Initiate and lead APC projects within the facility such as creating new advanced control / DMC applications.

  • Develop and/or modify inferentials / soft sensors for monitoring and/or DMC applications.

  • Develop and/or modify process control loops on various versions of Honeywell control systems.

  • Develop and/or modify process graphics for various Honeywell process control systems.

  • Ensure modifications to process control system applications are in-line with APC best practices.

  • Respond quickly and accurately to APC issues and concerns.

  • Willingness to support APC related and DCS related projects outside of normal business hours.

  • Assist with Maintenance to troubleshoot field instrumentation.

  • Assist with Operations to provide understanding of process control applications.

  • Ensure that both existing and proposed control applications are in compliance with environmental and safety best practices.

  • Participate in Process Safety Management Programs such as Management of Change.

  • Participate in RCFA and incident investigations as needed by providing process history an/or system functionality.

  • Ability to make continued progress on multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to acquire, evaluate, and make recommendations for process control applications.

  • Execute process control work with attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently with little guidance.

  • Cooperate with process control system domain administrator.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering (Master's preferred).

  • 5+ years refining / chemicals experience (controls preferred).

  • Preferred knowledge of DMCPlus modeling software.

  • Preferred knowledge of Honeywell TDC3000 / Experion programming.

This position requires close collaboration with other engineering and manufacturing functions. You will be part of new product development (NPD) teams, support existing products, help develop strategic processes needed for future products, and participate in and lead rapid improvement kaizens. Responsibilities: * Outline the sequence of steps to assemble a product * Select key materials * Select appropriate equipment * Request fixturing or other tools for operators * Generate machine programs * Document the process * Identify key input variables and responses for the process * Characterize responses with respect to input variables * Select effective process parameter values * Measure and reduce sources of variation in the production process * Identify technical risks in the process (e.g., using PFMEA) * Install error-proofing/pokayoke measures * Apply statistical process control (SPC) to detect shifts in the process * Respond to operator questions and concerns The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience: Minimum Requirements: * Must be a U.S. Citizen or have U.S. Permanent Resident status. * Bachelor's or Master's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field. * Ability to work in a clean room environment with extensive microscope use. Preferred Skills: * 2 years experience directly supporting flip chip BGA assembly processes. * Experience directly supporting microelectronic and/or electrooptical component assembly processes (e.g., die attach, wire bond, encapsulation, flip chip, hermetic sealing) * Experience applying problem-solving skills, statistical analysis, process control, and design of experiments principles * Experience with electronic materials (e.g., solders, conductive epoxies, underfills) * Experience selecting, specifying, and qualifying manufacturing equipment * Experience working with military products * Strong written and verbal English communication skills for technical subject matters * Good hand eye coordination; hand soldering skills * Experience using Oracle MRP or other similar MRP tool * Experience with 2D drawing programs * Advanced Excel skills (e.g., complex formulas, pivot tables, VBA), ability to write SQL queries, and/or general programming skills This position's primary/essential functions are subject to US Government ITAR compliance requirements under current government contracts.
