Job Description:

The Dryer Module Engineer will be responsible for the delivery of sub-system components that integrate seamlessly into new or existing dryers. The Engineer will work with cross-system teams to develop new and innovative features that delight our customers. This engineer will be the key focal point for specifying hardware solutions for dry systems, specifically for heat pump clothes dryers.

Key Activities and Responsibilities:

  • Design and Release system, sub-system, and component development projects on time, on cost and at best quality from concept to production.

  • Optimize appliance drying performance and energy parameterization, such as refrigerant quantity and capillary tube sizing in order to develop system trade-off curves.

  • Develop module technology roadmaps. Manage key inputs such as complexity reduction, attribute requirements, and cost & quality to ensure proper strategy is in place.

  • Provide direction to algorithm team regarding performance and energy requirements.

  • Develop multiple concepts and utilize engineering disciplines such as CAE, DFMEA, DVP&R, hands on testing to evaluate and select concepts which best meet requirements.

  • Perform and coordinate laboratory prototype testing for component and system level characterization.

  • Ability to travel within the US and Internationally.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3+ years in Appliance / Consumer Goods Industry Experience.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in Thermal Systems

  • Masters degree with related experience would be a plus.

  • Black Belt/Opex/Six Sigma experience a plus.

  • Demonstrated project management and computer skills.

  • Ability to apply fundamental physics to design and analyze thermal systems such as refrigeration components.

  • Strong Microsoft suite skills including PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Project.

  • Ability to communicate with and understand the needs of internal cross-functional partners.

  • Strong sense of accountability and personal commitment.

  • Able to contribute to strong and dependable teams.

  • Possesses excellent written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.

  • Familiar with google tools.

Function Overview We are currently recruiting for a Software Engineer - Coding / Algorithms at our St. Joseph, MI location. You will be part of our Dryer Algorithms, Performance, and Cycle Design team within the Dryer Subsystem Team. The primary function of this role is to deliver an integrated software design that provides the requested features and functions for a dryer. This global role offers endless opportunities to work on all types of global designs and machine types and provides numerous experiences to help you learn and grow in your career. Job Responsibilities * Requirements decomposition, design specification, implementation, integration, and Verification & Validation (V&V) for cycle design within IBM rational toolset and proprietary Whirlpool software development tool. * System-level attribute delivery for cycle selector design on all dryer types (air vented, heat pump, and/or condenser) * Integration and project management of cost and quality projects. * Utilize Failure Modes and Effects Analysis and risk assessment tools to assist in decision making. * Support for dryer marketing claims development and validation * Work closely with dryer setting file V&V team, electrical system integrator, dryer performance engineer, and software team to ensure all features and functions are implemented, tested, defects logged in IBM Rational Team Concert (RTC), and root cause identified. * Work closely with system integrator, electrical system integrator, dryer performance engineer and the entire technical team on delivering product requirements on time as an integrated package. * Accountable for the final release of setting file configuration documentation and prints into Windchill. * Develop new and improve existing test methods and test plans for setting file validation. * Responsible for continuous improvement of the development process including: * Validation test methods and test plans reducing test cycle time and improving the ability to detect quality issues earlier in development. * Feature and Function specification and target setting * Process documentation creation and release Minimum Requirements * Bachelor's of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic, Electronics, or Computer Engineering * 2+ years of experience in software, software testing and/or algorithm design and verification.
