An excellent career opportunity is currently available for a Engineer/Scientist Sr R&D in the Aromatics & Derivatives Development group within UOP's Research and Development organization located in Des Plaines, IL. This position affords a unique opportunity to develop new catalyst, adsorbent, process and equipment technology from concept to commercialization.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Participate on multi-functional teams focused on the development of novel process, catalyst, adsorbent and equipment technology in UOP's Aromatics & Derivatives product line.

  • Coordinate the design, planning and execution of experimental programs for new product development (NPD) and capability projects. Analyze results and deliver data packages that meet quality standards.

  • Coordinate the development of models by collaborating with modeling specialists and other team members

  • Provide support to Technical Service in troubleshooting and optimizing performance on commercial units.

  • Provide support to the Sales Support and Engineering functions to improve the competitiveness of commercial offerings and designs.

  • Contribute to the innovation effort at Honeywell UOP by identifying novel process, catalyst, adsorbent and equipment technology and filing invention disclosures

  • Must have ability to travel both domestically and internationally approximately 10% of the time*
    60 Coordinate experimental programs & model development for NPD and capability projects 20 Collaborate with team members to drive the delivery of NPD and capability projects 10 Provide support to Tech Service to troubleshoot and optimize performance on commercial units 10 Provide support to Sales Support and Engineering to improve competitiveness of offerings

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Minimum B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering

  • Minimum of 3 years post graduate experience in a technology, engineering, research & development, or technical service role within the refining, petrochemical or gas processing industries is required

WE VALUE

  • Strong understanding of chemical engineering, catalysis and/or adsorbent fundamentals and their application in refining and petrochemical process technology.

  • Experience in developing and executing experimental plans including the use of statistical tools for data analysis

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with a strong focus on delivering results and identifying alternative solutions when challenges arise.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to concisely report results to a variety of audiences and ensure key results, conclusions and decisions are well documented.

  • Knowledge of Six Sigma concepts and their application in managing risk and uncertainty. Six Sigma green belt certification is preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION: To provide engineering support for new and existing equipment and processes used in AM manufacturing operations. To develop and implement equipment upgrades and modifications to reduce product costs and improve product quality. To participate in and lead project teams requiring engineered solutions for new equipment, products, or processes. To implement, document, and maintain controlled, repeatable production processes. Major Responsibilities: Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system. Manage capital projects to select, design, procure, install and qualify new manufacturing equipment. Work with equipment suppliers to establish project requirements, deliverables, and budgets and implement according to agreed timelines. Coordinate the creation and execution of qualification and validation protocols to verify equipment capabilities. Investigate and resolve equipment operating, reliability, and yield issues and implement corrections or modifications to ensure systems operate within qualified parameters. Create and execute Quality System records to ensure equipment performance history is properly documented. Maintain relationships with contractors and equipment suppliers and service staffs. Direct the activities of these third party resources to ensure equipment operates as intended. Routinely has direct contact with outside consultants, technical staff from key suppliers and engineering staff in other divisions. Create or modify documentation requiring engineering technical knowledge. Includes operating procedures to be used by manufacturing personnel, qualification and validation protocols and executions, equipment maintenance procedures, and material specifications. May perform other duties as assigned. Accountability / Scope: Position operates with limited supervision. Successful execution of the responsibilities associated with this position results improving yields and cost metrics, and conformance with site, corporate and regulatory requirements. Failure in position may impact overall division operations and compromise product quality and/or supply chain delivery. Education: B.S. in any Engineering discipline or equivalent experience. Background: * 4-6 years experience, preferably in a mid-volume manufacturing environment, to include some or all of the following: * Medical device manufacturing experience preferred. * Progressive experience with equipment specification and procurement with emphasis on aseptic solution manufacturing, small volume liquid filling, and label printing and application. * Familiarity with qualification and regulatory requirements in the medical device industry, including IQ/OQ/PQ, URS, GAMP 5, etc. * Hands on working knowledge of automation control software and PLC programming and troubleshooting.
