Sr. Engineer - High-Speed SerDes Firmware

As a Sr. Firmware Engineer, you will develop software and firmware for Ayar Labs' electronic-photonic chips and perform initial chip bringup of custom systems-on-chip (SoC) platforms. You will be expected to work with microcontrollers and board-level hardware/software to perform real-time control of optical links. You will be joining a small team in a dynamic environment, where each member is expected to take on a wide range of responsibilities and to learn and grow with the company.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work with analog/mixed signal, digital, and photonic block designers to understand chip functionality.
• Perform chip bringup and initial functional test of new custom silicon.
• Develop and optimize firmware/software for doing real-time control of complex electronic-photonic chips with multiple high-speed optical SerDes links.
• Collaborate closely with the validation and test team to hand off chip testing platforms after initial silicon bringup.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelors in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, physics, or equivalent skills and/or experience.

• 2-5 years of experience developing firmware for an electrical IC application space.

• A strong programming background, developing and architecting embedded programs in C and high level code in Python.

• Familiarity with Linux/Unix.

• Experience working with ARM microcontrollers.

• Understanding of basic circuit theory, electronics, and board-level debugging.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency with modern version control workflows such as Git

• Experience with silicon bringup for high-speed SerDes

• Familiarity with high speed SerDes blocks such as PLLs, serializers, TX Drivers, RX CTLE, deserializers, etc.

• Proficiency in digital systems and understanding Verilog RTL

Pay range $120K to $165K
