The Senior Employee Communications Specialist for the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians will play a key role in shaping a high-performance organization and engaged workforce. At the heart of shaping an engaged workforce is effective communication. Reporting to the Employee Communications Manager, the Senior Employee Communications Specialist is a strategic partner both to senior leaders within Human Resources (HR) and to those of outlying departments. The candidate is responsible for orchestrating comprehensive, integrated communications plans that support strategic HR and organization initiatives. Execution of these plans will ultimately support employee engagement and organizational performance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1.Manage recruitment-focused social media platforms LinkedIn and Facebook Careers, create strategies to ensure continued growth, engagement and reach of channel, analyze and report on activity.

2.Craft and deliver consistent communications via existing (email, video, print, digital platforms) and future channels that engage and align our people to organization-wide strategy and objectives, enabling them to work more effectively and efficiently.

3.Serves as a strategic communications consultant to key departments external to HR. Acts as liaison and maintains solid relationships with various external vendors, agencies, educational partners, production and research companies, etc.

4.Edit and enhance internal communication materials, including presentations, newsletters, emails/memos, intranet, videos and presentations. Review and edit essential internal communications prior to dissemination to ensure accuracy, clarity, and appropriateness. Coordinate internal communication efforts with other departments who focus on external communications (Public Affairs, Office of the CEO, Office of the General Manager and Marketing).

5.Work with Manager to provide strategic support to the Vice President of Talent Infrastructure, Vice President of Talent Management, their Directors and other leaders.

6.Work with CPIO, HR Vice Presidents and other senior HR leaders to craft and deliver communications as directed.

7.Work closely with senior leaders to keep abreast of organizational developments and trends.

8.Define measurement approaches, conduct regular measurement of communication campaigns and manage feedback channels; utilize the information to make recommendations to improve our strategies.

9.Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration or related field required.

  • Master's Degree with a minimum of three years' of experience in the previously listed fields preferred.

  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in Corporate Communications, Human Resources or Marketing required.

  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above. Knowledge of principles, practices, and standards of Human Resources management preferred.

  • Experienced track record of developing effective employee communications vehicles utilizing multiple mediums (video, print, web, etc).

  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Proficiency with Adobe platforms, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, and Premiere Pro or similar preferred.

  • Proficiency with DSLR photography/videography required.

  • Competent designing communications on behalf of and communicating directly to, senior and executive leaders.

  • Outstanding in all aspects of communications: written, oral, listening, presenting and expressing ideas.

  • Able to edit own work and the work of others.

  • Superior attention to detail.

  • Well-organized and able to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.

  • Able to work effectively in a team environment and creatively solve problems.

  • Can work in a rapidly changing environment with a high tolerance for ambiguity.

  • Possesses aptitude to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment while producing quality work under time constraints.

  • Has a results-oriented approach with ability to develop and manage measurement metrics.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.

Physical Requirements/ Working Conditions - Environment

The physical demands and working environment described here are representative of those that an employee encounters and must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Primary work environment is in a climate-controlled office setting.

  • Work requires travel to attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences.

  • Incumbents may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts.

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.

  • Strength sufficient to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and/or move up to 40 pounds occasionally.

  • Sedentary work: involves sitting most of the time. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

  • Physical activities that apply to the essential functions of the position are balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

  • Hearing sufficient to hear conversational levels in person, via videoconference and over the telephone.

  • Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood in person, in front of groups, in meetings, via videoconference and over the telephone.

  • Visual acuity that meets the requirements of the position: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading and visual inspection of employees, visitors or facility.

  • Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office environment, walk, stoop, bend and kneel, and enter, exit and operate a motor vehicle in the course of travel to promotional events, meetings, conferences, trade shows and San Manuel properties.

  • Endurance sufficient to sit, walk and stand for extended periods, and maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift and during extended work hours.

  • The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including secondhand smoke.
