Caterpillar Inc. seeks Sr. Embedded SW Engineer at its facility located at 2427 E Engine Dr, Chillicothe, IL 61523.

Act as a contributor to the planning and delivery of complex embedded network and information software projects. Accountable for contributing to requirements development, requirements decomposition, concept, design, development of complex software components, subsystems, or processes for network and/or information features.

Performs complex analysis work, identifies design problems, and resolves problems. Although this position may be the transition from individual contributor to team leadership, the major focus of the job is on technical Software delivery. Incumbents may work more directly with different units, suppliers, customers, and/or other teams.

This requires the ability to communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner. This position will meet goals for cost, reliability, and performance, and managing multiple priorities. This position must keep up to date on changing customer needs as the project progresses, stay current with new technology, and provide guidance and direction on the project to less experienced engineers, technologists, and technicians.

Incumbents may be expected to bear significant responsibility for completion of a project with major focus on delivery. Key areas of responsibility encountered in this role may include any or all the following: concept, design, development, and test. This position will promote new software features and processes; perform requirements analysis and decomposition; evaluate new software development languages, development tools or processes; perform product maintenance; manage the software lifecycle through version control and configuration management; keep up to date on new technologies or develop new technologies; communicate technical information to customers, team members, suppliers and other units; and support and advise other engineers, managers, customers and suppliers.

Engineers must manage their own development, continuously learning through experience and staying abreast of emerging technologies such as Autosar, continuous integration and build, native simulation, and automated test. Key skills to be developed at this level are development time/cost analysis, conceptual design, mentoring of team members, practical application of theory, knowledge of the NPI process, and communication skills. 30% telecommuting permitted. Travel Requirements: Less than 10%.

REQS: This position requires a bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, and six (6) years of experience in the embedded network communication systems and software development or related occupation.

In the alternative, employer will accept a master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, and four (4) years of experience in the embedded network communication systems and software development or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have 4 years of employment experience with: (1) Automotive, machine, or industrial embedded network communication software development; (2) Embedded software languages C, development tools, and processes; (3) Developing and maintaining data link and networking protocol libraries; (4) Developing low level network Drivers utilizing CAN, CAN FD, and J1939 communication library development; and (5) Embedded network communication systems and software network protocol libraries.
