Sr. Electrical Engineer

  • Steam Turbine Generator Specialist

What will you do?

  • Develop and maintain electrical maintenance strategies for the NA business unit assets. Assist site personnel with the implementation of electrical maintenance strategies across the business unit.

  • Collaborate with peers to develop asset strategies, pursue consistency between sites, share best practices and experiences.

  • Deploy and execute asset strategies.

  • Monitor results to continually refine and improve asset strategies.

  • Manage the power system studies across the NA business sites.

  • Ensure compliance with NFPA 70E requirements for power system studies. Identify and track deficiencies identified from power system studies.

  • Work with sites to close deficiencies.

  • Perform minor updates to power system models.

  • Develop and implement steam turbine generator maintenance strategy across the NA business unit.

  • Collaborate with site personnel to implement turbine generator maintenance strategy.

  • Assist sites with root cause failures related to turbine generators.

  • Share best practices and experiences across North America business

  • Coordinate input to the electrical asset heath register for the NA business unit.

  • Provide prioritized asset assessments that support the 5-year capital planning process.

  • Participate in reviewing and updating the electrical design standards across the NA phosphates business unit.

  • Ensure that standards are reviewed on the required frequency and communicated.

  • Review capital electrical projects ensuring compliance to best practice Mosaic and industry standards.

  • Assist sites with root cause investigations for significant electrical failures.

Major assignments include?

  • Electrical equipment protection and controls, ranging from final utilization voltage (480/600V) to high voltage (15/34.5/69/72/115/138/230kV)

  • Perform minor updates to power system models (Easy Power).

  • Electrical equipment maintenance strategy input

  • Steam turbine generator maintenance strategy contributions (<58.5MW).

What do you need for this role?

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • 8 years or more of related electrical engineering experience with working knowledge of steam turbine generators.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience leading cross functional teams.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to interface with all levels of management.

  • Working familiarity with RCA and FMEA.

  • Must demonstrate ability to influence others; requires strong leadership qualities, teamwork and problem solving / decision making qualities.

  • Experience with power modeling tools such as easy power.

  • Knowledge of short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash and power quality studies.

  • Protection and control inclusive of SEL/GE relay programming and testing experience

  • Knowledgeable on regulatory bodies such as NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 70B, NETA.

  • Working experience with low, medium, and high voltage industrial electrical equipment.

  • Working experience with operation and maintenance of high voltage switchgear (gas, air, and metal-enclosed), transformers (oil-filled and dry-type), and other industrial electrical infrastructure.

  • Familiarity with electric power system synchronization.

  • Familiarity with load shedding system and schemes

  • Ability to analyze and interpret engineering documents, codes, and standards.

  • Electrical equipment maintenance and testing experience.

  • Familiarity with steam turbine generator operation and maintenance

  • Willingness to become a steam turbine generator subject matter expert via on-the-job classroom and field training.

  • Strong communication and leadership skills including:

  • Technical report writing,

  • Presentation, Organization, and People skills.

  • Motivated, self-starter, and problem-solving skills.

  • Must demonstrate ability to influence others; requires strong leadership qualities, and team building.

  • Working familiarity with RCM and FMEA

  • Experience working with CMMS (or similar software)

  • Supporting multiple sites in a central role is an asset.

  • MS Office products, CMMS (or similar software) experience. Maximo or SAP, preferred

Preferred experience and knowledge:

  • Control system knowledge. Experience with Rockwell, GE, or ABB PLC's and/or Delta-V, ABB 800xA, or Yokogawa DCS is an asset.

  • Steam turbine generator experience which includes major overhaul, operations, shop repair and field supervision of millwrights and machinist.

  • Experience with underground mining power systems is an asset for potash sites.

  • Experience with field instrumentation, PLC and DCS control systems
