Senior Electrical Engineer PV Portland, TN
Position Overview:
Based in our Portland, TN facility, and reporting to the Manager Product Engineering, the Senior Electrical Engineer PV will be responsible for actively participating in the design and development of innovative Shoals' products in the Utility-scale Solar EBOS (Electrical Balance of System) market segment. As an Electrical Engineer, this hands-on position will design products with the highest levels of design reliability, quality and performance.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities:
Perform electrical engineering design calculations and component selection for Utility-scale Solar EBOS products
Design, develop and modify electrical designs, schematics, electrical enclosures, and wire harnesses
Participate in cross-functional engineering teams to develop Engineering Specifications that meet product and company objectives for the Product Engineering group.
Contribute to new product development in the Solar business segments for Shoals. Products include molded cable harnesses, combiner boxes, load break disconnect boxes, IoT solar module monitoring, and associated accessories.
Perform power analysis of low voltage and medium voltage AC and DC power distribution systems
Participate in design verification testing, agency testing
Ability to define issues encountered during development and provide options and recommendations for resolution.
Work with internal resources and outside vendors and partners in support of product development.
Collaborate with internal and external resources for Reliability Engineering, Product Testing and Compliance.
Qualifications
BSEE with 7+ years of experience in an Electrical Engineering product development environment (Solar experience a plus)
Understanding of AC (both single and three phase) and DC power systems
Fundamental knowledge of renewable and off-grid power systems design and analysis
Experience with CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and Schematic capture software (Altium, P-CAD, PADS)
Working knowledge of safety standards and agency regulations, EMC and Environmental compliance (NEC, NFPA 70, UL, CSA and IEEE standards experience)
Experience in electronics integration and packaging, including thermal management of electronics enclosures and cable routing/management
Understanding of product development process, including Phase-Gate development is a plus
Experience with configuration management and the engineering change control process.
Demonstrated experience with the development of products from concept to final manufacture, balancing cost and performance. Design and development of low to medium-volume products a plus.
Demonstrated experience interfacing with manufacturing engineering and production personnel.
Strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills
Team player who works across multiple functional areas to deliver project requirements.
Computer proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint
