Summary

The Senior EHS Manager will collaborate to develop and implement global programs and services for Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS). This role will primarily focus on environmental issues and involve developing and maintaining EHS management systems, corporate standards, compliance programs, and auditing initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Director, EHS, this position will be essential in ensuring environmental standards and regulatory compliance across multiple locations.

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Collaborate in designing and deploying Global EHS Standards integrating US and international regulatory requirements.

  • Draft environmental standards covering air permitting, waste management, emergency response, compliance management, and plant-based regulatory programs.

  • Participate in EHS assessments and audits organization-wide.

  • Develop training materials and provide environmental managers and plant personnel training on compliance with regulatory and company requirements.

  • Analyze environmental metrics to improve performance and compliance strategies.

  • Assist in developing and implementing an integrated management system incorporating best practices from various EHS Management Systems.

  • Manage environmental data audits, generate reports, and resolve data-related issues.

  • Foster working relationships with operations personnel to enhance environmental culture globally.

  • Collaborate with location EHS teams on projects and program deployments.

  • Conduct environmental site assessments for acquisitions and divestitures, addressing potential liabilities.

  • Manage remediation projects and engage with regulators on regulatory issues.

  • Participate in training and coaching subject matter experts.

  • Stay abreast of international environmental and ESG regulations, ensuring compliance.

  • Develop and manage programs to reduce environmental impacts and meet strategic goals.

Qualifications

The following generally describes requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, chemistry, engineering, or related field.

  • Eight or more years of progressive EHS experience in manufacturing facilities.

  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and other relevant agencies.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing EHS management systems, such as ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

  • Strong knowledge of US environmental regulations and standards.

  • Technical writing and auditing experience.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and MS Office applications.

  • Flexibility to adapt to a global environment and travel regularly.

  • Proven leadership ability, with experience leading and developing high-performing EHS teams.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects and initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications such as CHMM or professional engineering license.

  • Experience implementing sustainability initiatives or managing social responsibility (CSR) programs.

  • Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies, behavior-based safety programs, and environmental management systems.

Work Environment

  • Working within a general office environment approximately 70% of the time.

  • Standing and walking for up to eight hours daily during plant visits and audits. The ability to climb ladders and elevated platforms and walk a manufacturing facility. Emergencies can require more strenuous activities, also considered part of the job.

  • Travel by air and car to visit sites.

  • The primary work location will be the corporate headquarters.

  • Ability to work for periods within the manufacturing environment, including areas with hot or cold temperatures, and require using PPE (respirator, etc.).

  • Ability to lift up to 45 pounds (~20 kg) and force necessary to push, pull, or move objects.
