Sr Drafting Tech

Salary Grade: G09

Minimum Midpoint Maximum

$50,991 - $67,562 - $84,134

Personnel in this job title may be covered by NERC CIP cyber security standards. If the position is covered, prior to being hired, promoted, or transferred into the position, the candidate must successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, which includes identity verification and a criminal background check.

Prior to being granted unescorted access to cyber secure areas, the candidate must attend cyber security training. Annual cyber security training is also required.

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, provides continuous drafting support for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of PNM electrical facilities to various departments and individuals Provides specific drawings for construction and special projects. Acts as the lead Drafting Technician by coordinating the information flow and responding to inquiries from other departments and customers. . Transforms initial rough sketch designs using computer aided design (CAD) 2d/3d into working engineering/design documents. Reviews engineering drawing and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Transforms initial rough sketch designs using CAD 2d/3d into working engineering/design documents

Reviews engineering drawing and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards

May be required to map company facilities added or modified in the geographic information system (GIS)

Consults with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, and drafting standards

May lead and direct the work of others

Creates drawings or prints used for specific engineering purposes from the CAD system

Creates construction drawings using the system and modifies them into AutoCAD drawings, 2d & 3d

Trains or assists in the training of other drafters

Assists the engineering groups in correcting discrepancies and duplications in documentation

Checks engineering drawings put into the system by other drafters

Maintains plotting and printing equipment and orders materials such as ink and paper as needed

Provides cad support for electrical, mechanical, and structural design documents

Provides AutoCAD drafting for relaying panels, schematics, wiring diagrams, operating one-lines, dispatching, transmission and substation foundation, grounding, and conduit layouts

Creates complex 3d models of electrical substation and switching stations

Provides AutoCAD and printing technical support to Engineering Department

Provides file management for substation and region office facilities May perform other duties as needed

COMPETENCIES:

Advanced knowledge of CAD Programs, drafting practices, and use of equipment

Advanced knowledge of the company¿s CAD/drafting standards and symbols

Familiarity with electric systems and construction practices

Knowledge of land survey drawing and readings such as bearings and distances

Knowledge of electrical systems and practices

Knowledge of GIS to CAD and CAD to GIS conversion efforts

Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures;

Ability to demonstrate experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

Strong degree of creativity and latitude

Good organizational skills

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED with five to seven years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.

Associates degree in related field is preferred.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos

Ability to write correspondence

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Knowledge of operating systems, and system engineering websites

Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, scanning, timekeeping, and database software

Advanced knowledge of CAD software

Ability to create complex 3D models using Auto CAD¿s three-dimensional coordinate system

ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and/or walk up to 2/3 of the time and regularly required to sit up to 2/3 of the time. Manual dexterity required and the ability to talk and listen.

Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Office environment.
