Responsible for receiving and dispatching calls. Utilizes resources efficiently (drivers and equipment) when routing orders, while maintaining a high level of customer service. Ensures Drivers are dispatched in accordance with federal/state regulations, company policies, and the union contract. Monitors delivery progress and communicates with customers as needed.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Uses company program to log all calls.
Ensures that all necessary information is entered into the system so that all required data is compiled on the equipment.
Investigates untimely service. Tracks equipment being put in or out of service. Works with shop foreman to schedule equipment for service.
Completes purchase order form for expense items purchased.
Acts as lead to Dispatcher I's, using experience to answer questions and train less-experienced associates.
Dispatches Drivers to cover all open board work. Assigns backhauls to ensure timely and efficient pick up of freight.
Assists with input of customer schedules in order/routing systems.
Reviews and prepares reports from the on-board computer system and brings violations of the FMCSR to the attention of supervision.
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience working with vendors.
Demonstrated knowledge of personal computers and related business software required (MS-Excel and Word preferred).
Excellent interpersonal skills required, with a demonstrated ability to provide guidance and assistance to others.
Transportation or warehouse experience would be beneficial. Familiarity with transportation operations and union contracts would be beneficial.
Knowledge of FMCSR Hours of Service Regulations would be beneficial.
Working knowledge of vehicle "On-Board Computers" would be beneficial.
Prior experience in routing, balancing pick up, delivery, and long-haul assignments would be beneficial.
