The Role

As Moderna continues to rapidly grow, we are searching for an experienced and innovative Senior Talent Acquisition leader to spearhead recruitment for our global Commercial and Medical teams. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the global talent acquisition strategy for a critical area of the business and lead/mentor/develop a fantastic team of recruiters. This leader will own Global TA for both Moderna's Commercial and Medical organizations - and will work closely with the C-suite leaders and their leadership teams for both areas. This role is part of the global TA leadership team and will require a high level of collaboration with our international TA leaders and HR Business Partners in Europe and Asia.

This hands-on leadership role will relentlessly keep a high talent bar for Moderna, tenaciously hunt the best players in our industry (globally) and be a strong and visible talent business partner to five of our executive committee members and their direct leadership teams worldwide. They will also lead a team of ambitious talent acquisition business partners and provide development, coaching and feedback continuously. We work as a team, we believe in being bold and taking risks, we know diversity is a key to success, and we are relentless in our pursuit of the best talent in the industry. Moderna is on the precipice of an amazing global growth journey and it's an exciting time to join!

This role will be based in our Cambridge HQ and offers flexibility to work anywhere 30% of the time. Candidates must be based in, or willing to relocate to, the greater Boston area. Given our high level of collaboration and fast pace, this role is not able to be remote.

Here's What You'll Do

  • Partner with senior leadership to own and evolve full life cycle recruiting efforts for our Commercial and Medical businesses. This includes creation and ownership of an innovative global TA strategy, along with hands on headcount management and demand planning skills to anticipate and plan for hiring proactively.

  • Lead a small team that is functionally aligned and ensure development, belonging and diversity are top priority in order for the team to thrive and grow.

  • Own and manage up to 10 senior leadership searches for your business groups at any given time. The ideal candidate must love hands-on recruitment, have a demonstrated passion and history of finding the best leadership talent in the market.

  • Help define and champion a consistent recruiting process at Moderna that results in a superior candidate and hiring manager experience. This includes concierge-level, value-added service to the business requiring business acumen, creative thinking, and a desire to differentiate TA at Moderna each and every day.

  • Leverage external and internal talent data to best inform hiring managers and guide them to make smart hiring decisions against Moderna's Mindsets

  • Manage recruiting demand and proactively assess recruitment volume and headcount planning during budget cycles using data and analysis for decision making.

  • Proactively develop strong ongoing partnerships with Moderna HR Business Partners, Finance and Total Rewards teams.

  • Conduct in-depth talent video screens, in-person interviews, and facilitate/lead internal team discussions regarding leadership candidates.

  • Be bold in creating new ideas to identify, engage, attract, and assess talent into Moderna.

  • Be the global SME for TA across Commercial and Medical teams.

  • Minimal global travel, as needed, but less than 15%.

  • Additional duties may be assigned from time to time.

Here's What You'll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in Talent Acquisition (at least 10 of which should be in a corporate, in-house leadership role managing, developing, and promoting talent acquisition partners).

  • Experience leading recruitment for a global Commercial organization in a high-growth global biotech or pharma company.

Here's What You'll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience defining and executing a global TA strategy for multiple areas of the business. At Moderna, our leaders act with dynamic range and flex from strategy to execution constantly. We also have a very non-traditional approach to our Commercial and Medical org design - so thinking outside the traditional pharma framework is important.

  • Digital-first mindset - we digitize everywhere possible, and this role requires the ability to story-tell through data, find opportunities for automation, and the desire to leverage technology to make recruiting smarter, faster and differentiated at Moderna

  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to nuance communications for different audiences.

  • We act with urgency at Moderna. This role requires a client-focused mentality and desire to exceed the expectations of our business leaders by being accessible, accountable and responsive.

  • Experience leading highly confidential searches - including partnering with retained search partners or internal executive search teams.

  • Proven experience with advanced level Excel and PowerPoint in order to influence decision-making and provide compelling story telling,

  • Experience with cutting-edge recruitment technology. We are an Eightfold and Workday partner and are always looking to adopt AI and machine learning into our day-to-day work in TA.

  • A desire to make an impact as part of a high-growth, transformational company that is Bold, Relentless, Curious, and Collaborative.

About Moderna

In over 10 years since its inception, Moderna has transformed from a research-stage company advancing programs in the field of messenger RNA (mRNA), to an enterprise with a diverse clinical portfolio of vaccines and therapeutics across seven modalities, a broad intellectual property portfolio in areas including mRNA and lipid nanoparticle formulation, and an integrated manufacturing plant that allows for rapid clinical and commercial production at scale. Most recently, Moderna's capabilities have come together to allow the authorized use and approval of one of the earliest and most effective vaccines against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moderna's mRNA platform builds on continuous advances in basic and applied mRNA science, delivery technology and manufacturing, and has allowed the development of therapeutics and vaccines for infectious diseases, immuno-oncology, rare diseases, cardiovascular diseases and autoimmune diseases.
