About the job

The software delivery process is critical to SAS' ability to deliver high-quality, productive, secure, and compliant software, which is what the market and our customers expect of us. As the Senior Director of the Software Delivery Engineering division, you'll report directly to the SVP of R&D Platform Engineering. You'll be leading the teams responsible for our build, deployment, and update processes. You will ensure the reliable, secure, successful, and timely delivery of high-quality, productive, secure and compliant products and solutions across the various platforms supported by SAS.

You will also spearhead improvements to the day-to-day experience of teams of developers and testers via automation and pipeline development, maintenance, and improvements. Your customers include internal teams of developers and testers as well as external customers of the software being delivered. Your division's processes will support collaboration between teams inside Platform Engineering and other teams across SAS. We are seeking a pragmatic and customer-focused leader who is passionate about leadership excellence, organizational discipline, and process efficiency. We need someone who can help us:

• Manage a reliable, secure and compliant supply chain for software delivery

• Realize cost savings from efficient use of software delivery infrastructure in the cloud and on-premises

• Optimize the software delivery pipeline to allow product teams to deliver high-quality features and updates into customers' hands with speed and confidence

As the Senior Director, Software Delivery Engineering, you will:

• Develop strategic priorities for the Software Delivery Engineering division.

• Create and reinforce a goal-oriented, collaborative, and people-first culture across the division.

• Provide infrastructure and automation direction and leadership through knowledge of best practices, research on innovative solutions, and collaboration with other division leaders, product strategy, product experience, IT, our customers, and others within and outside SAS.

• Create and support a culture that is focused on critical thinking; prioritize the development of business acumen and its applicability to help internal users of the software delivery pipelines to deliver business value to customers of the products and solutions.

• Monitor and ensure that the software delivery pipelines adhere to established government-mandated and R&D-mandated practices, standards, procedures and schedules.

• Provide technical leadership as appropriate to all divisions delivering SAS software.

• Initiate and enable cross-divisional collaboration to improve the overall effectiveness of the R&D Platform Engineering organization.

• Engage and collaborate with the R&D Platform Engineering architecture team to evolve our software delivery processes into best-in-class pipelines.

• Represent the company and the Software Delivery Engineering division within or outside the company.

• Proactively identify and navigate potential issues and resolve blockers to meet deadlines and schedules for software delivery.

• Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in software delivery.

Required Qualifications

• 15 years of related software development experience, including eight years of experience managing technical staff at all levels..

• Bachelor's degree in quantitative field.

• Deep understanding of software development methodologies, agile practices, and DevOps principles.

• Experience with project management tools and software development tools such as Jira, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Demonstrated success working with stakeholders to refine requirements while leading an organization to develop and deliver processes and tools that meet those requirements.

• Ability to bring form and structure to the ambiguous.

• Extremely strong analytical, presentation and communication skills.

• Proven ability to interface with, influence and manage all levels of the organization.
