Location/Division Specific Information

Our Genetic Sciences Division (GSD) based in South San Francisco is at the forefront of innovation for genetic analysis research and clinical applications. The Clinical Content Organization within GSD is a cross-platform organization designed to accelerate growth in the clinical space. The team is dedicated to working across all genetic analysis platforms with focus on high-growth opportunities developing products/solutions for key applied clinical markets such as infectious disease, pharmacogenomics, public health and oncology.

How will you make an impact?

The role of Sr. Director, Molecular Diagnostics Product Management will report to the VP/GM of Content Engine and GSD Marketing, and will serve as the product management leader of the Clinical Content business. This includes collaborating with Platform, R&D, Medical and Business Development teams to assess, prioritize and develop content solutions to solve for customers' toughest clinical diagnostic challenges.

Key Components

Customer & Market Knowledge:

  • Deep knowledge of healthcare market a strong understanding of healthcare customer segment (reference labs, hospitals, public health labs), understanding of competitive landscape, knowledge of global market trends

  • Understands trends in both conventional and molecular methods for diagnostics. Has strong knowledge of qPCR, CE, Microarray and NGS platforms and the corresponding content (applications) to meet applied clinical market needs

  • Conversant with the clinical diagnostics (LDT & IVD) development process with demonstrated record of successful submissions for CE-IVD, CFDA, and 510K/PMA approvals. Understands organizational requirements to design products/solutions, and can operate under the constraints of an increasingly compliance-driven environment

  • Brings the customer and our impact on them deeply into the organization. Understands genetic analysis "sample-to-answer" workflows of various customer segments. Leverages diverse global experience across various stakeholders (labs, hospitals, clinicians, patients, payers and policy makers) to bring clinically relevant solutions to the market

  • Ensure prioritization and tracking of product management activities New Product Introductions, Sustaining & Incubation. Accountable for delivering key milestones on time and aligning to the overall revenue targets

  • Execute consistently on plan targets using metrics to monitor and adjust based on performance against those metrics

  • Manage a high performing team of 5-6 Product Management directs. Manage/influence several cross functional stakeholders in the matrix

  • Develop Product Management professionals, attracting and empowering the right talent and driving employee engagement, building reputation for the best place to work

How will you get here?

Education

Bachelor's degree required in science, engineering, businesses, economics or related field. MBA or similar advanced degree preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in product management and 5 years in managing product management teams with a successful track record of driving robust pipeline of products

  • Familiarity with clinical (both LDT in CLIA environment and IVD) and applied/translational research customers

  • Global market knowledge of genetic analysis, across multiple platforms e.g. CE/Sanger, qPCR, Microarray, NGS

The Senior Director, Oncology Product Management will provide leadership and execution to manage the Oncology business in the Clinical Next-Generation Sequencing Division's (CSD) Oncology assay business in the Life Sciences Group (LSG) of Thermo Fisher Scientific. This person will help define the overarching oncology strategy and go-to-market plan in collaboration with the broader executive leadership team. This includes defining the product roadmap, the market access strategy (i.e., reimbursement), and clinical informatics strategy. Lead team focused on developing and managing the complete portfolio of oncology NGS assays in the OncomineTM family of products. In addition, the overarching go-to-market strategy includes guiding the biopharma partnering strategy for IVD products and leading the Diagnostics Partnering business development team. Our targeted sequencing assays are built on the foundation of the Ion TorrentTM platform and AmpliSeqTM technology. The products we develop are used by clinical researchers and molecular pathology labs on a routine basis to enable precision genomics. S/he will be responsible for development of product portfolio strategy, product definition, portfolio positioning, and lifecycle management. What will you do? Key Responsibilities * Manage and lead the solid tumor, heme-oncology, liquid biopsy, and immuno-oncology product management team and drive market readiness in delivering new and existing products for the global market * Work collaboratively with CSD commercial team (sales and market development) to drive commercial strategy and growth for the business. This includes defining and developing clinical engagement strategy with key opinion leaders and market access strategies with payers * Responsible for worldwide supply, demand, revenue, margin, and pricing for product portfolio; update and present forecasts regularly to management, finance, and manufacturing teams * Lead and leverage analyses of business and market trends to define customer requirements, competitive strategy, and business opportunities for increasing customer and business value * Manage the overall portfolio roadmap and lifecycle for new assay development and corresponding business cases, with due emphasis on revenue growth, install base, and profitability for the portfolio. This includes balancing the investment profile across the portfolio to deliver IVD and RUO sales strategies * Lead teams through new product development processes from concept through commercialization, including voice of customer research, definition of customer and product requirements and value proposition, manage product launches and sales training to achieve timely launches and commercial objectives * Lead overall diagnostic partnering strategy and accountable for overall revenue from biopharma partnering activities for companion diagnostics (CDx) * Lead and balance internal product development and regulatory activities with commercial execution of CDx deals to manage and deliver NGS IVD strategy * Must have proven ability to build relationships and guide teams which include representatives from multiple functional areas, including R&D, Sales, Program Management, and Manufacturing * Must have experience in managing multiple stakeholders and resolving conflict within teams * Must have excellent communication skills including oral, written and presentation techniques Leadership Responsibilities * Provide thought leadership to overall CSD Oncology product strategy and direction. Education Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree, or higher preferred Experience * 10+ years of direct product management or marketing experience in the diagnostics, genomics, or medical devices industry; Next generation sequencing experience required * In-depth clinical oncology market experience, with familiarity of the oncology diagnostics and treatment landscape from oncologists and molecular pathologists is required * Knowledgeable or demonstrated aptitude to understand biomarkers used for diagnostics development and biopharma drug development in accordance with clinical trial study designs * Demonstrated effectiveness in marketing, product management or strategy role including participating in market analysis, planning and new product development required * Team management experience to delegate and empower teams to achieve success by setting team objectives, guidelines, and removing obstacles Knowledge, Skills, Abilities * A team player with cross-functional leadership experience that understands collaboration is key to success.
