Job Description Summary

Do you have a passion for helping to empower leaders, employees and organizations to achieve their goals through creative communication strategies, techniques and storytelling?

In this role, you'll partner with the Travelers Operations senior leader and organization to shape and deliver integrated internal and external communication strategies and initiatives that help to achieve business outcomes. The role also focuses on amplifying our mission, purpose, strategy and culture to engage employees and make Travelers a destination for talent.

As a collaborative member of the Corporate Communications team, the role requires leading resources, as well as external agency partners. Reports to the Head of Technology & Operations Communications.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create and execute complex internal and external integrated strategic communication plans that directly advance Travelers Operations strategic outcomes and priorities, while reinforcing Travelers culture and character. Apply change management practices to enable transformation and implementation of Operations technology, tools and resources.

  • Develop and edit compelling content and leverage storytelling. Create executive messages that inspires and engages audiences, promotes a greater sense of community and builds a high-performing organization.

  • Strengthen senior leadership communication capabilities through strategic counsel, engagement strategies, tools and resources.

  • Leverage diverse communication channels, including social media, interactive events and digital experiences to achieve maximum

  • impact.

  • Develop creative concepts and partner with multi-media resources to execute effectively.

  • Help to strengthen the employer brand through external awards, industry conferences, social media, media relations and executive visibility strategies. Support communications with external strategic partners to create pipeline of talent.

  • Cultivate strong partnerships with leaders and colleagues across the company, including collaborating with Corporate Communications providing direction to other Travelers Operations strategies and initiatives, as well as media relations, social media and brand.

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of both operations and technology business strategies and build them into communications approaches and content.

  • Provide input into the development of internal communications best practices and ensure practices are implemented across the team.

  • Ensure that enterprise approval processes, templates and brand guidelines are followed in the development of communications. May recommends guidelines to leaders.

  • Measure communication effectiveness through qualitative and quantitative methods. Leverage insights to continuously improve and adjust approaches.

  • Share business and communications subject matter expertise with other team members; mentors/trains others on the development of communications and communications strategies. Stay current with emerging trends.

  • Lead others to develop their expertise as business partners, trusted advisors and strategic communicators.

  • Ensure that communications efforts are legally compliant and cost-effective.

  • Identify risks, issues, and challenges and recommend solutions.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in in English, journalism, communications or minimum of 7 years of related communications experience.

  • Minimum of 2 years of management experience.

Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge

  • Typically has 8+ years of experience in corporate communications or a related field.

  • Thorough knowledge of all contemporary communications techniques.

  • Thorough understanding of business strategies.

Job Specific Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Advanced interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Superior writing and editing skills, applying AP Style. Adaptive writing abilities for different formats including internal news stories, executive messages, video scripts, presentation and talking points. Ability to capture and reflect different voices and communications styles.

  • Detail oriented and proven project management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, within tight timeframes and collaborate with others to deliver results.

  • Proficient digital communication professional with demonstrated experience maintaining websites, MS Teams and/or blogs, as well as MS Office tools.

  • Ability to direct creative and multi-media resources to engage audiences.

  • Advanced problem-solving skills.

  • Advanced ability to work individually and as a member of a team (on team assignments) and build productive working relationships across functional areas.

  • Ability to identify emerging issues in the organization, and external issues that could affect the company's reputation.

As such, the Director of Medicare Operations supports MAPD and SNP initiatives and implements and oversees activities and programs across the market to achieve earnings and growth objectives. Additional Responsibilities as a Director Medicare (MDCR) Operations Include: * Direct operational functions of Medicare products across a market as directed by the Chief Medicare Officer (acting as Chief Operating Officer) * Responsible for AEP operational readiness including the education and training of Sales team, telesales and customer service teams * Develops recommendations for Service Area Expansion/SAR's/Product terms * Ensures that market Medicare network is adequate and optimized for customer marketability and works closely with the network team to support and ensure provider data accuracy * Responsible for all operational aspects of Joint Venture partnerships * Provides operational support for market management of plan sponsors, members and network providers Participates in various committees to represent the Medicare department including NCQA, Internal Research, UM, QI, Trend/MER, Risk Mitigation, Complaint and Appeals, bid, implementation, migration, etc. * Has shared responsibility for all CMS, Bid and application activities * Serves in a strategic capacity in the bid process as it relates to product and benefit design, competitive analysis, membership modeling, and Contract/PBP strategy * Maintains awareness of trends and developments in Medicare and managed health care organizations * Uses competitive intelligence to guide, consult and drive product implementation and strategic focus for Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage * In partnership with the Product organization, responsible for the oversight and execution, at the local market level, of all CMS required activities and processes including the accuracy and compliance of the annual bid application, expansion application, member materials, group set up * Develops Sales and Membership model in conjunction with CMO and Enterprise; accountable to ensure that all customer and broker facing material is accurate and compliant Responsible for Member Retention and member experience initiatives. * Manages Member Retention Specialist(s) * Leads member retention activities, including development of outreach material, design/implementation of outreach programs both directly and in coordination with corporate member retention team, development of talking points/educational pieces about market specific issues * Develops and implements business strategies to provide accurate and proactive customer service to members, plan sponsors and brokers Maintains current knowledge of State and Federal regulations. * Monitors sales and marketing activities to assure adherence to Federal and State regulations * Coordinates strategies and recommends policy positions with senior management regarding legislative issues and regulatory with a key support function in program and project management in support of Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D, including Stars, Revenue Management, Quality and Network concerns Represents Chief Medicare Officer in strategic and leadership meetings as needed. * In partnership with Operations Integrity and at the direction of the Chief Medicare Officer, may facilitate internal and external Medicare audit activity including CMS and operations integrity audits.
