The Sr. Director of Engineering is part of the Single Use Technologies (SUT) business in our BioProduction Division (BPD). BPD is one of the fastest growing businesses in the company, supporting developers and manufacturers of biological-based therapeutics and vaccines. With our portfolio of best-in-class products that span the bioprocessing workflow from discovery through large-scale commercial production, our business is driving performance in bioprocessing through collaboration with our customers. The Sr. Director of Engineering will lead the Engineering function within the Single-Use Technologies BU. The role will report to the Vice President and General Manager, be a visible member of the BU leadership team, and lead a team in meeting business objectives.
Manage all facilities and manufacturing equipment for all SUT manufacturing sites, including maintenance and upkeep of current machines as well as design, development and installation of new machines
Lead Product Engineering team for life cycle support of all SUT product lines
Drive continuous process improvement, embracing and championing Thermo Fisher's PPI tools and best practices
Ensure best practices of Program Management are followed across the business, with the goal of delivering products of high quality and value to the organization within the agreed-upon metrics of schedule, resources, budget and scope
Builds and manages a high-performance team of engaged, talented and motivated professionals to support the ongoing growth of the business and build bench-strength within the organization
Demonstrate and champion core leadership behaviors. Promote diversity, including experience and thought leadership.
BS degree in Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred
Minimum 10 years of experience in capital projects and/or cGMP facilities management
Demonstrated ability to manage a global engineering and technical team in a matrixed environment
Broad knowledge of project management best practices in R&D, engineering and operations.
Strong track record of meeting objectives with a sense of urgency, and driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Strong talent management and people development skills.
Ability to collaborate and work across a heavily matrixed environment and can communicate effectively and concisely at all levels.
Comfortable working in ambiguity with attention to detail.
Executive presence; strong presentation and communication skills
Travel expectation: 25-50% (primarily domestic/US travel).
