Janssen Research & Development LLC, a Johnson & Johnson company, is recruiting for a Senior Director Data Science-IDV, reporting to the VP, Data Science IDV and Retinal. The primary location is New Brunswick, NJ but flexible to Spring House, PA; Cambridge, MA; New York City, NY; or Raritan, NJ. Remote work options may be considered on a case-by-case basis and if approved by the Company.
We are looking for a seasoned data scientist with deep experience in data science, epidemiology, health outcomes or related expertise with significant experience in Real-World Evidence (RWE) application through advanced analytics and innovative approaches. He/She must have a strong strategic perspective and desire to drive innovation and inform portfolio decisions, through the application of state-of-the-art RWE and data science methodologies.
The Data Science group is charged with applying cutting edge analytic approaches such as AI/ML to all phases of drug discovery and development. The group drives and shapes both internal and external collaborations and collaborates across Janssen with other therapeutic areas, R&D IT and the Data Sciences Core functions. Organizationally, the Data Science group ensures appropriate targeted application and fidelity of complex high content data sets to answer questions across the entire developmental spectrum and provides a crucial connection across the organization.
The Senior Director will be a key leader in a highly matrixed environment developing and implementing our overall Data Science strategy for key areas within the IDV TA. This individual must be bilingual in both the clinical content area of IDV and Data Science.
The Sr Director Data Science-IDV will:
Identify and translate challenges in drug development where Data Science based approaches are suitable and translate these into answerable questions.
Drive and oversee development and execution of sophisticated protocols to answer focused questions, identifying the most appropriate data sets and analytic approaches.
Lead the appropriate interpretation, application, and integration of results.
Establish effective partnerships with Disease Area Stronghold leaders and teams, Clinical Program teams and other internal collaborators to build data science solutions to achieve team objectives.
Expert level ability to understand evidence gaps across all types of clinical questions and prioritize de novo studies based on Portfolio priorities.
Identify and build relationships with academic and external partners aimed at gaining valuable insights from state-of-the-art data and analytic approaches.
Through internal and external collaborations, implement advanced statistical methods and machine learning / artificial intelligence algorithms to significantly impact the business.
Lead in a highly matrixed environment with cross functional teams of TA/functional representatives, Data Scientists, Software engineers, external partners (when relevant), etc.
Develop a deep understanding and address critical path needs of key programs, understanding and aligning with discovery and development partners to drive value.
Establish and evolve impactful use cases with key stakeholders.
M.D/Ph.D/MSc/PharmD degree + 7-10 years of relevant experience in Epidemiology, Statistics, Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence, Biostatistics, Health Economics and Outcomes Research, or a related field required
Significant experience and demonstrated ability to navigate RWD/EHR datasets to extract novel insights
Robust understanding of pharmaceutical discovery, development and life cycle management
Broad understanding and application of advanced statistical and predictive modeling using RWE
Experience with the complete life cycle of real-world evidence (planning, generation, and dissemination)
Proven project leadership in complicated context, able to influence and engage the strategic and technical stakeholders
Strong track record of collaboration and leadership in matrix organizations
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and written skills
Dynamic entrepreneurial mindset
Ability to travel both domestic and international on an as-needed basis (up to 10-15% yearly)
Disease area knowledge of IDV
Experience with AI/ML
Experience delivering impactful data science projects using predictive technologies, data mining and/or text mining
Experience with Big Data and cloud technology
Experience interacting with Health Authorities
