About the Role:

Grocery Outlet, a leading player in the highly digital and cloud-first retail environment, is seeking a Senior Director of Application Development to join our Business Technology Organization in Emeryville, California. This pivotal role, reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), demands a visionary leader capable of steering our application development efforts to new heights of innovation, efficiency, and excellence. The successful candidate will be at the forefront of our digital transformation journey, managing a diverse team of onshore and offshore development resources and collaborating closely with product management, architecture, technology operations, and quality assurance teams.

Responsibilities Include:

• Leadership and Strategy Development: Forge and execute a comprehensive strategy for application development that aligns with the company's business goals, focusing on cost-effectiveness and efficiency. This includes decisions on onshore vs. offshore, internal vs. external resources, and automation strategies.

• Team Management: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of onshore and offshore development professionals, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and innovation.

• Quality Assurance and Standards: Establish and maintain high coding standards, leading the quality assurance processes to ensure that all applications are reliable, scalable, and meet our rigorous quality criteria.

• Collaboration: Work closely with product management to understand business needs, with architecture to align on technology decisions, with technology operations for seamless deployment and scalability, and with quality assurance for ensuring product excellence.

• Innovation: Stay ahead of emerging technology trends and best practices in application development to drive innovation and efficiency within the organization.

• Problem Solving: Excel in ambiguous situations by developing innovative solutions to complex problems, with a focus on driving results without compromising on quality.

About The Pay:

• Base Salary Range: $170,000 - $210,000 Annually

• Final compensation will be determined based upon experience and skills and may vary based on location.

About You:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A Master's degree or higher is preferred.

• Experience: At least 10 years of experience in application development, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role managing both onshore and offshore teams in a digital and cloud-first retail environment.

• Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans for application development.

• Strong leadership skills with experience in managing diverse and distributed teams.

• Expert knowledge of coding standards and quality assurance methodologies.

• Excellent problem-solving capabilities in complex and undefined situations.

• Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and communicate complex ideas clearly.

• Deep understanding of the retail industry's digital and technological needs.
