The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a Sr. Digital Sculptor.
This role collaborates directly with Industrial Designers in the Styling & Design studio and conceptual model shop to develop digital and physical mock-ups using CAD, rapid prototyping and other visualization techniques in support of the design review process. Having an eye for design and an understanding of Harley-Davidson's principles for design aesthetics is invaluable to this role.
This is what you'll do...
Support Industrial Designers with the generation of accurate CAD models from 2D proposals/verbal direction to enable digital reviews and mock-up development.
Work directly with model makers and engineering teams to develop 3D digital model data for both design reviews & RP applications.
Develop creative design solutions to enable mock-up development and 3D physical design exploration and communicating and aligning with Systems Engineering & FIT design teams.
Coordinate the creation of prototypes through the work order system and track part delivery to the Styling & Design Studio.
Use appropriate tools for product designs and identify opportunities for the acquisition of new design tools.
Ability to provide alternative design solutions where appropriate.
Degree in Mechanical Design or related technical degree preferred. Industrial Design experience is beneficial but not required.
We're looking for someone with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, preferably from the transportation or power sports industries. In addition, they will have demonstrated the following:
Translating Styling Models
Strong passion for design and knowledge of the Industrial Design process and how it integrates with the product development methodology.
Has demonstrated the ability to interpret Styling direction in the form of verbal instruction or sketches to create designs that meet functional and aesthetic requirements.
Is expert in creating parts & assemblies using Creo Parametric, leveraging most of the following skills: Surfacing tools, complex drafted features, complex filleting, sheet metal, simplified reps, mechanism models.
Has experience working with large assemblies and top-down modeling methods. Able to manipulate assemblies using simplified representations.
Vehicle component & system design
Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFM/DFA)
