As a Senior Designer for HMH's in-house creative agency, you'll act as a visual storyteller, helping to market new campaigns and programs. As a Senior Designer, you're expected to meet the HMH brand aesthetics, employ strong typography, design, and composition skills.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conceive of, design, and produce a compelling marketing campaigns to strengthen campaign messaging, draw the reader into the content and distinguish HMH from its competitors

  • Ensure your creative exemplifies best in class innovative, conceptually driven, and cohesive design while meeting creative brief requirements, carefully selecting font, photography, and design layout

  • Participate in campaign and execution kick-offs and clearly present work during creative pitch meetings, providing an insightful point of view and rationale

  • Create (and refer to) style guides for campaigns, translating intent into a brand identity system and ensuring that design/production colleagues have the guidelines necessary to work on other efforts along a given campaign

  • Display strong knowledge of the design of existing campaigns (including branding, photography, typography, etc) in order to leverage that creative for efforts along a campaign and don't overlap key branding elements across various campaigns

  • Work on numerous projects at a given time, staying on top of deadlines and proactively communicating any challenges to both account managers and Design Managers

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, in graphic design or related field preferred

  • 5+ years of experience in graphic design preferred

  • Experience designing for B2B solutions (education publishing industry preferred)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator; willingness and ability to create an elegant, designed "feel" in programs such as PPT and Word that were not written primarily as design vehicles

  • Proven track record in developing compelling creative work for complex clients and businesses

  • Experience developing strong client relationships

  • Speed and agility; ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure, developing creative design within tight deadlines

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills

  • Expertise in digital channels and marketing

Physical Requirements

  • Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing)

  • The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer

Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings

GENERAL FUNCTION  The Sr. Product Designer will be charged with interacting with the licensor to understand the brand and it targeted core customer.  This position will be charged with creating and managing sketches for new eyewear collection; this includes close collaboration with product developers and designers in Italy.   MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Develop and prepare sketches of new eyewear concepts based on the specifications set per the licensor requests. * Interface with product development and line planning teams in N.A. and Italy to research and develop proprietary and innovative construction details –hardware, material combinations, new production/design, techniques, etc.). * Create fully resolved sketchbooks and renderings in Illustrator for presentation to licensors. * Proficiency in generating fully detailed technical drawings inclusive of section drawings, exploded views and notes for prototyping. * Assist in the prototype and CAD assessment/revisions and follow up to ensure accurate translation of drawings and support product development. * Trend interpretation based on overall N.A. eyewear and fashion trends; interpreting current and future industry trends. * Leads explorative development of materials and techniques in strict collaboration with N.A. development and line planning team. * Provides direction on product concepts that meet the collection strategy and incorporate N.A. trends. * Researches domestic and competitive markets to identify new products and market trends while maintaining the brand identity and business strategy. * Executes to timelines and provides timely solutions. * Actively participates in industry conferences and trade shows.   BASIC QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor’s degree of Industrial Design from accredited college or university required. * Minimum 5 years of design experience with specialty retailer or distribution/sales environment with working knowledge of the production process. * Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written). * Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint. * Experienced in a sales distribution business and exposure to Italian culture and language proficiency a plus. * Equivalent combination of education and experience. * Domestic and International travel maybe required.
