Position Summary

The Sr. Design Engineer designs components or portions of a system of components to develop or improve existing products while reducing cost, enhancing performance, or facilitating manufacturing operations. Develops product or system layouts, drawings and schematics using computer‐aided design tools and provides related technical support and coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Design of complex Printed Wiring Assemblies (PWA) and Printed Wiring Boards (PWB) for use in airborne applications, including single sided, double sided and multi-layer. Must be able to work with circuit design engineers and with electronics packaging engineers to establish component placement, board outline, and connector interfaces. Must be able to expertly operated upper level PWB design software and interface with schematic capture software.

  • Place and route high density multi-layer PWBs and ensure compliance with aerospace environmental issues, including EMI, thermal, and vibration. Perform required design and drawing changes and document changes by creating Engineering Change Order (ECO).

  • Create component symbols (footprint) in accordance with industry standards. Create drawing packages for PWB fabrication including generating GERBER data. Create drawing packages for PWA manufacturing including BOM information for procurement.

  • Participate in PWB/A and packaging design reviews and perform peer drawing package checking. Effectively evaluate and respond to Failure Analysis Reports. Effectively evaluate discrepant hardware for flight worthiness.

  • Effectively coordinate design requirements and manage activities with outside design services. Effectively coordinate with PWB/PWA vendors to resolve manufacturing and/or design issues.

    Effectively participate and provide solutions for ongoing cost reduction and process improvement activities. Effectively interact with cross functional teams to deliver high quality designs on schedule.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree (BS) (or Professional Engineer (PE) certificate) in engineering or a science technical discipline.

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 7-9 years of related experience.

  • Must have in-depth working knowledge of Cadence Allegro. Familiarity with Mentor Graphics Expedition, or Altium a plus.

    Familiarity with schematic capture software. Experience with DX Designer a plus.

  • Strong experience with PWB design for airborne applications. Current knowledge of Military and Industry Specifications. Extensive experience with electronic components used in airborne applications (SMTP and PATH) and related environmental issues, including thermal and vibration.

  • Must have In-depth knowledge of PWB fabrication and PWA assembly processes and technologies. Expert knowledge of materials and coatings used in PWB/PWA design and related environmental issues, including thermal and vibration. Ability to read electronic wiring diagrams and schematics.

Please note that the salary range information is only applicable for California. Compensation is based on a variety of factors, candidate experience, qualifications, location as well as market and business considerations. Pay Range: $98,429 - $164,140
