The MSRB is looking for a Senior Database Administrator to work as a member of a highly functioning collaborative team who are responsible for maintaining high levels of availability, security, performance and reliability, while executing the strategy and direction of database administration. This hands-on position provides mentorship to others on the team in database design, operation, and support of a data driven architecture with fit for purpose databases. This position works in a least privileged security environment adhering to strong IT general controls and ensures they are enforced. It drives and ensures database architecture and system alternatives keep pace with industry and monitors current database developments in Cloud native technologies to maximize organizational investments. This position also partners with and supports the data and development teams to ensure proper fit for purpose design and necessary support is received to maximize the MSRB's investment in a data driven architecture.

Qualified applicants will have 8+ years of related experience with other DBMS software including Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Aurora. A bachelor's degree in computer related studies, Oracle DBA and AWS certifications are preferred. Applicants must possess advanced knowledge of database practices, Oracle and PostgreSQL DBA administration, database tuning, and recovery. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Linux/UNIX operating systems, PL/SQL development and IT General Controls. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with AWS Cloud databases, Cloud Watch and SNS alerts, and AWS CDK Pipelines development in Python.

Ability to work in a fast-paced development environment and provide 24x7 support to ensure continuous market presence. Strong writing skills with the ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, write detailed reports and standard operating procedures (SOP), business correspondence, system requirement documents, and training manuals.

Applicants will need to have strong verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from all staff levels. They must also have the ability to perform analysis and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership for creating and articulating the strategy and direction of database administration for the MSRB Programs

  • Provides experience in directing the organization to the most effective fit for purpose database solution

  • Serves as a liaison with key database users, developers and technology delivery team

  • Key member/driver of the MSRB product development teams

  • Responsible for cross training team members in appropriate fit for purpose solutions

  • Develops and monitors a standard process for implementing database, system patches and upgrades

  • Defines, refines, standardizes, and oversees database performance and tuning practices

  • Conduct fit for purpose database prototypes

  • Responsible for database automation to ensure accuracy and minimize costs

  • Ensures appropriate database backup and recovery practices are in place and executed

  • Implements, monitors and tests data replication schemes

  • Maintains Meta-data repository and ensures it is updated as part of the practice

  • Establishes capacity objectives and oversees the collection and maintenance of capacity data for reporting to management

  • Plans, performs, and oversees migration of organization database systems to desired state

  • Enhances the MSRB data replication processes to reduce the amount of time between replications

  • Performs routine and advanced fit for purpose database development, planning, and coordinating, including base definition, structures, documentation, upgrades, long-range requirements, operational guidelines/protection and support

  • Provides technical input to software developers and end users in the areas of hardware and database capabilities

  • Acts as subject matter expert for all database systems

  • Provides training and guidance to peers and other Database Administrators and Data Developers

  • Escalation point for 24x7 MSP in support of operational support of organization databases on a rotating schedule

  • Performs necessary activities for compliance with Regulation Systems Compliance and Integrity

  • Recommends, writes and follows all relevant policies and procedures to operate a controlled production environment

  • Mentors and trains staff on AWS PostgreSQL database configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and tuning

  • Performs Python based AWS CDK coding and pipeline development and deployment

  • Performs other duties as assigned
