The Sr. Database Administrator/ Teradata Systems Engineer will perform the duties of a Senior level DBA, responsible for all of the daily maintenance, monitoring, performance analysis, troubleshooting, problem resolution, and user assistance required for Teradata database environments. As a Sr. Engineer you will thrive in a dynamic work environment made up of a global team that provides the highest level of service possible to both our internal and external customers by building a stable, scalable, and secure enterprise Teradata database environment, completing service requests quickly, and dedicatedly searching out opportunities for improvement and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities Include

  • Perform performance tuning on complex queries with efficiency of PI/SI indexes, Join Index, PPI, Using Explain plan for analysis using Teradata Explain & Visual Explain, data distribution among AMPs and index usage, collect statistics, revision of correlated sub queries, etc.

  • Analyze DBQL entries to look for long-running queries, high CPU & I/O usage, spool usage, noting accounts, assessing SQL for troubleshooting and recommendations

  • Responsible for planning software lifecycle projects to ensure database environments is supported

  • Properly identify required hardware, software, database configuration, and architecture necessary to support application for capacity planning. Provide expertise in planning and execution of hardware/software upgrades and expansion. Proficient in shell scripting, system tuning and troubleshooting on UNIX systems.

  • Work with Teradata and other vendors to ensure standard methodologies are followed and environment is optimized. Collaborate with internal systems, storage, networking, and application teams

  • Ensure recovery time and recovery point objectives are met

  • Work with business units to understand their application DBA needs and assist in crafting services to meet those needs

  • Perform 24x7 production support for Teradata environments and regulated systems (SOX, HIPAA, etc.) in a rotation with other support staff


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, MIS, or other related technical discipline

  • 7+ years as a Teradata DBA

  • 3+ years working with Teradata 2650, 2750, 6700, 1700 and BAR hardware including handling expansion and upgrade processes

  • Familiar with Teradata DBMS version 15.10 and experience upgrading from previous version(s)

  • 3+ years administering a multi-appliance Teradata production environment

  • Expert knowledge in operating Teradata client software on SUSE Linux and Windows environments and configuration of connections strings

  • Expert knowledge with Teradata View point, Teradata PDCR, setting the alerts, TASM implementation and changes to the workloads if necessary. As well as using PDCR to generate various performance and system related reports

  • Expert knowledge with DBA activities like Setup database, users, tables, views, macros, stored procedures, checking the tables skew, profiles, roles, grant/revoke permissions, space management and troubleshooting the job failures, data labs, knowledgeable with database recovery and restart procedures, database monitoring and periodic performance tuning

  • Advanced knowledge in monitoring and maintaining a production Teradata environment

  • 3+ years of experience with logging onto the Teradata nodes, running tools from the Supervisor screen such as PackDisk, CheckTable, ScanDisk and other diagnostic tools such as VProcManager on the Supervisor screen

  • 3+ years with backup management design, implementation, maintenance of backup policies and backup jobs, administration of cleanup and retention, setting up new backup jobs using TARA GUI, moving data from one Teradata system to another using named pipe arc or Datamover

  • 1+ year working directly with Teradata GSC in resolving RDBMS related incidents

  • 1+ year hardware and software compression


  • Teradata Certified Professional or Advanced Professional

  • Experience as both a Production and Application DBA, and completely knowledgeable on change control and system security procedures Experience supporting and implementing technology projects as the primary DBA in support of business initiatives

  • Demonstrated ability to integrate across technical teams to deliver successful technical solutions

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to positively influence
