Senior Database Administrator

  • Performance Engineer (SQL Server)

The Senior Database Administrator Performance Engineer provides expert-level database support to Customers and JDA teams by analyzing and maintaining database environments, providing recommendations, and driving solutions. Scripting, reviewing database configurations, performance tuning, and optimization of the JDA Product being supported is required. Ensuring quality plans and proactive alerts are in place for maintaining database availability at acceptable service levels. Stays up-to-date with latest trends and technologies to articulate recommendations. Combines excellent problem solving, root cause analysis skills, and Application and Database Technical expertise to deliver quality solutions to JDA Customers.


  • Works with customers and internal teams in support of data base and performance related issues arising from JDA Products

  • Maintains multiple server databases across OS platforms and locations to support JDA product efforts, including installing new databases, upgrades, backups, administration of RACs/clustering, performance monitoring, and trace file analysis

  • Develops and maintains a quality plan for new version upgrades for ensuring internal and customer-facing critical database and infrastructure are at acceptable service levels

  • Expedites resolution of issues as required to maintain acceptable customer satisfaction

  • Works with vendor support teams to resolve database management system-related issues for external-facing systems to maintain acceptable service levels. Analyzes and resolves database performance issues of medium and high complexity.

  • Stays up to date with the latest trends and technologies in the field, articulates recommendations to the team and maintains best practices documentation

  • Provides regular communication and status reporting to respective manager to inform them of current and future activities, concerns, and project issues

  • Works with JDA associates to define JDA product database functional and technical requirements and needs. Demonstrates problem solving and innovation abilities by reducing recurring DB issues reported by customers.

  • Gains an in-depth understanding of product solution and business requirements.

  • Sets up security procedures in databases to safeguard customer's data to comply with the privacy policies of customers.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in MIS, IT, Computer Science or related field with 13+ years implementation/administration of relational databases. Equivalent technical experience may be substituted for educational requirement.

  • Possess a strong understanding of SQL Server in a production environment is strongly preferred

  • Excellent understanding of, and experience with relational database architecture and database implementations / monitoring / maintenance

  • Experience with Application performance tuning using monitoring, diagnostics, and bottleneck isolation in Enterprise Applications

  • Experience with performance analysis and the knowledge to run traces, performance maintenance and identifying blocking issues in a multi-database production and non-production environment

  • Strong SQL skills and ability to write queries and develop Experience with shell scripting and JAVA scripting

  • Experience using monitoring and profiling tools such as Explain Plan, SQL Server Profiler, MS PSSDiag, Oracle AWR Reports to detect, isolate, and resolve issues proactively

  • Experience with JDA MOCA Console and Trace Analyzer desired

  • Experience with database memory and file structures, data dictionary tables, and views

  • Experience with RMAN backup and restores

  • Knowledge of UNIX, Linux and Windows operating systems

  • Experience with clustering and high availability in database environments, having worked with RAC for at least 2 years

  • Possess strong understanding of Network & Security Fundamentals

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for each performance engagement

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with analytical and troubleshooting skills required

  • Ability to think ahead and anticipate problems, issues and solutions

  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management Fundamentals is preferred

  • Knowledge and understanding of JDA Platforms and WMS Technical Architecture is preferred

  • Understanding of ITIL Process and experience working with Support Case (Ticketing System) Tools / Applications is preferred

  • Knowledge of DBA best practices (e.g., schema management, index optimization, and use of hints
