As a Sr. Database Administrator & Systems Programmer for Minnesota IT Services (MNIT), you will serve as a member of the Database Services Team at the central office that provides database administration services to various state agencies.
This position calls for a highly experienced Sr. Database administrator with significant verifiable technical knowledge, skills & abilities to support various database environments including DB2, Oracle & SQL Server. Experience will include supporting multi-terabyte DB2 LUW/DB2 Mainframe databases, ensuring 24/7 availability, performance, backup, recovery and security. Responsibilities are varied and complex that require independent judgement to implement, support and maintain DB2 products and technology.
Responsibilities will include:
Implement large/complex database environments based on design specification/technical requirements as provided by our customers. This includes both OLTP and OLAP environments
Provide all aspects of ongoing technical administrative support for what are commonly large/complex database environments
Perform database workload assessment and tuning support, this includes tuning of database objects and of SQL statements
Perform all aspects of database upgrade support, as well as patching both at the database level and at the system level all aspects of system troubleshooting sufficient to determine root cause and to take full corrective action
Provide on-call support for those databases for which MNIT's central office is responsible.
Provide coaching/mentoring to less senior group members on various topics pertaining to database administration
Provide ETL (extract/transform/load) support as needed
Provide database related software support. This function is largely specific to the support of databases hosted on the mainframe (notably DB2).
Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume:
This position requires a minimum of five (5) years of database administration experience that includes:
Experience with SQL Server and DB2 database on both distributed and mainframe environments
DBMS System Manager
Experience upgrading and supporting DB2 LUW and DB2 mainframe databases
Experience with DB2 system programming and IBM DB2 products
Experience with the following tools and utilities: DBMS System Manager, Replication, Diagnostics, Backup/Recovery, Tuning, Configuration Management, Security, ETL
Experience with logical data design/data modeling
Experience with physical database design (OLTP, OLAP)
Lead work experience
A Master's degree in Information Technology or a related field substitutes for three years of experience, OR a related Bachelor's degree substitutes for two years, OR a related Associate's substitutes for one year.
