Summary:

This role is part of an organization that uncovers insights to benefit Hershey's consumers, shoppers, employees, and retailers. Hershey's Advanced Analytics group provides insights and recommendations that impact multiple facets of the business from Marketing to R&D. You'll be part of a team that goes beyond basic analysis, exploring traditional and non-traditional data sets while leveraging new and innovative technologies. The ideal candidate will have a close attention to detail, ability to decompose complex problems, possess strong analytical acumen and a high level of intellectual curiosity. This position must establish him/herself as a subject matter expert and valued consultant with numerous client groups to provide unbiased, objective analyses to inform business decisions.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conducting root cause analysis on issues and creating forecasts that have significant impact on Hershey's business and strategy

  • Creating predictive and prescriptive models to enable scenario planning

  • Identifying growth opportunities via analytical models

  • Creating ad hoc, inferential models to explain business results and causal drivers

  • Utilize advanced analytical methods to uncover insights that can either build upon current success or capitalize on new opportunities

  • Present key findings to cross-functional stakeholders with recommendations on how best to utilize the information in decision-making

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • A passion for analytical problem solving and strong communication skills

  • Ability to work with disparate information, glean insights from the relevant data, and effectively communicate findings with key stakeholders

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams

  • Effective project manager who can define a business problem, retrieve and prepare the necessary data, develop suitable modeling approaches, evaluate the quality of different models, and deploy a solution that meets end-user criteria.

Minimum Education and Experience

Requirements:
  • Master's degree in a STEM field is required

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of related statistics and/or market research experience

  • Programming experience (preferably in R and/or Python)

  • Experience in predictive and prescriptive modeling

Role Responsibilities: * MANUFACTURING ANALYTICAL SUPPORT – Under light supervision, provide technical support to manufacturing facilities by recommending and implementing at-line analytical instrumentation used to measure ingredient, in-process and product attributes. Serve as a resource for existing equipment calibration and troubleshooting. Ensure methodologies are fit for purpose and accuracy of resulting data. * ROUTINE TESTING - Under light supervision, monitor ingredient, in-process or finished product quality through analytical testing. Perform simple to moderately complex wet chemistry techniques (sample preparation, extraction and analysis). Perform moderately complex chemical analyses using analytical equipment. Operate, maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation. Prepare standards and controls. Record, compute and evaluate data as well as input data into LIMS. Prepare tables and graphs of data as appropriate. Maintain Workstation Manuals. * PROJECT LEADERSHIP - Under general supervision, assume responsibility for projects of significant importance, scope and complexity or assist on more complex projects. With assistance, solve problems through application of knowledge, experience and original thinking. Provide leadership and instruction to technicians when they are assigned to assist on a project. Review results with others and suggest the advisability of further tests and/or changes deemed necessary. Prepare all project reports as required. Make presentation of significant conclusions when pertinent. * LABORATORY METHOD DEVELOPMENT/EQUIPMENT SET-UP - Make recommendations for method development, or enhancement, designed to provide new analyses, produce more accurate data, or achieve cost savings. Also recommend and coordinate equipment purchases and upgrades. * ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES - Approve incoming ingredients and manage the customer COA (certificate of analysis) program as needed Qualifications: * B.S. Degree in Chemistry * Minimum of 2 years of related experience Additional Skills Required: * Superior working knowledge in analytical test methods and Good Laboratory Practices. * Superior working knowledge of analytical test methods and instrumentation used in a food manufacturing facility * Demonstrated experience using complex analytical instrumentation * Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge * Advanced problem solving and troubleshooting skills * A well-rounded working technical knowledge of chemistry and related sciences * Attention to detail, especially with respect to laboratory techniques * Ability to multi-task, prioritize, organize, track and plan. * Superior communication skills in verbal and written form. * Proficiency in computer programs / software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point and LIMS * Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and independently in a flexible work environment with changing priorities and deadlines. #LI-NB1 The Hershey Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
