This is one of seven operators providing operations support and monitoring of the Data Center and campus clients.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Operations Lead, provide technical support for all Data Center Services including virtual and physical servers, network configuration, physical colocation, and backups of all these services. Ensure Data Center system operations run efficiently and that services are consistently provided by being the first point of contact for system issues, provide monitoring and when necessary escalation and communication of system outages. Provide limited service desk routing for campus clients outside normal business hours.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work occasional overtime due to the mission-critical services provided by this department and in response to system problems.

  • Typically work outside of normal M-F, 8-5 working hours. Adjust to shift re-assignments due to operational needs.

  • Vacation is restricted during peak work periods.

  • Travel between campus and off-campus locations may be required.

  • Adhere to workplace safety practices, read information communicated about workplace safety, complete required safety training on time, and report any workplace safety issues promptly to their supervisor or the designated safety coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Experience with Linux and Windows system administration including, but not limited to, installation, configuration, and patching of operating system as well as applications.

  • Experience having tasks assigned via a queue in a ticket management system.

  • Experience working in a structured environment managed under change control.

  • Experience using a service availability monitoring tool.

  • Experience racking and installing computers and network equipment.

  • Understanding of Data Center infrastructure such as requesting, issuing, and installing TLS certificates, basic commands on F5 load balancers, managing backups using enterprise backup system, DNS management using tools such as Infoblox, dig, and dnsviz.

Preferred:

  • Experience using ServiceNow as ITSM tool.

  • Experience writing Linux shell scripts and using one of the standard editors.

  • Experience using a variety of computer networking concepts, topologies, protocols, hardware, and monitoring tools, to support a local area network and the interface to the campus' wide area network.

  • Experience performing physical cabling including building network cables and punching down patch panels and configuring L2 switches.

  • Experience working in a 24×7 environment when scheduling of tasks and ongoing issues need to be handed over to next shift.

  • Experience using organizational skills to effectively coordinate several simultaneous activities in a dynamic mission-critical environment with frequent changes in work priority, strict deadlines and complex scheduling requirements.

  • Skills to work in either the PHP or Python development languages.
