Duties

1.Senior Crime Analyst work examples: This position provides technical and quantitative Crime Analysis leadership for the Shreveport Police Department.

Maintenance and enhancement of existing crime analysis systems which collect, collate, analyze and disseminate crime activity data, including frequency, geographic factors, victims, targets, suspect descriptors, chronological information, suspect vehicle descriptions and modus operandi factors. Designing new GIS applications, dashboards and databases and coordinating the existing system with internal and/or external resources. This position will also utilize these systems to identify emergent crime patterns and series.

Analyze these tactical activities and contribute to intervention efforts, as well as supporting investigative functions. Support specific police activities by providing information and analysis to Commanders that provides decision-supporting intelligence and information Measure and forecast public safety related activity, as well as analyzing this activity for the purpose of contributing to problem solving, intervention, and reduction efforts. Support general police activities by providing information and analysis on police resources and on police actions and their consequences, including manpower and resource allocation, redistricting, and requests of a political nature.

Research, compile, analyze and interpret statistical data from offense reports, arrest reports, census reports, etc. Provide forecasts and interpretations of future crime statistics. Identify and recommend methods to develop agency tactics, strategies, and long-range plans for crime control and prevention.

Provide training to department personnel on the practice and purpose of Crime Analysis and presents information to the department, City Council and public forums. Utilize advanced GIS techniques and practices to identify, analyze and combat crime patterns and series. Manage and provide oversight of Uniform Crime Reporting Program to include training of classifying officials, issuing classifying guidelines and resolving classification issues. Provide information and maintain liaison among police agencies, other City personnel and the public regarding crime and criminal activities.

Minimum Qualifications

1.Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, criminal justice, or related field.

2.Seven years of experience with a military or law enforcement agency compiling and mapping data, analyzing findings and writing reports that indicated crime trends and patterns.

3.Knowledge of law enforcement operations and procedures.

4.Working knowledge of relational databases, data modeling, GIS application development, statistical analysis, and dashboard technology.

5.Ability to present facts and render opinions to all levels of a public safety organization.

6.Ability to speak in front of large audiences and convey complex concepts and theories clearly and in a credible manner.

7.Knowledge of principles of statistics and quantitative analysis, qualitative analysis, demographic and social variables affecting public safety.

8.Ability to identify and organize data for analytical purposes and present data in detailed statistical reports and in dashboards.

Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.

Requires visual perception and discrimination. Requires ability to communicate orally. Job must be performed with or without accommodations.

Work Environment: Tasks are regularly performed in doors in an office environment.

There is limited exposure to extreme weather conditions. May have normal exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise.
