The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a Sr Cost Analyst.

Job Summary

This position will lead various processes and activities to achieve cost goals within Product Development Purchasing. Position will provide leadership by making sound, fact based, recommendations regarding supplier cost and financial issues. This individual will be expected to champion both cost reduction and cost education as well as serve as a teacher and mentor to others with respect to cost. Duties may include part cost analysis, supplier financial risk analysis, and other analytical projects as assigned.

Job Responsibilities

  • Solves complex problems related to analyzing and controlling material cost including forecasting and enacts a new perspective on existing solutions. Works independently and receives minimal guidance

  • Ability to extract part and cost data from systems to develop cost control initiatives and scenario planning

  • Manage cost reduction initiatives. Report progress to organization and propose changes to program as required to ensure targets are met

  • Communicates difficult or sensitive information and builds relationships within Materials Management and with other internal stakeholders

  • Understanding of manufacturing and manufacturing processes

  • Overall understanding of cost drivers and allocation of costs in a manufacturing environment

  • Acts as a resource for Cost Analysts with less experience. Responsible for ongoing activities, objectives and may lead projects or steps within a broader project

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Preferred

Experience Requirements


  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience

  • Strong working knowledge of tools used to extract and analyze data and synthesize for reporting to internal stakeholder. Advanced Excel skills and experience with Access, Tableau and SAP desired

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within and/or lead a group or team providing guidance to members

  • Experience in the development, execution, tracking and reporting of cost management programs or initiatives

  • Proven track record in utilizing historical data and knowledge of industry standard rates to estimate cost and the theoretical cost of components and systems based on specifications

  • Ability to apply knowledge of best practices in financial analysis of a part, process, capital, development expense and cost, and how their own area integrates with others to drive results

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processing of durable goods at a component and/or subsystems level within an automotive, motorcycle, or other heavy industry manufacturing environment


  • Purchasing experience

  • Expertise in quality/continuous improvement tools and ability to analyze supplier cost management including total product cost modeling.

  • Experience with cost modeling software is a plus

  • Certificate in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Project Management

  • Knowledge and experience in various manufacturing industries

Assist in the preparation of compliance status reports including metrics/goal tracking Provide regular program updates to management and Business Application Owners Support continuity efforts during a real a disruption event.
