Sr. Cost Accountant

This individual will help develop and implement cost accounting and inventory cost analysis systems, will interpret results for management and assist in cost reduction efforts. The cost accountant will participate in studies to improve the operational and financial effectiveness of the business. Will extract and analyze financial data from various accounting and information systems. Support business unit and manufacturing groups with cost, manufacturing, and inventory analysis. Responsibilities include ensuring the accuracy of inventory, setting up and maintaining a standard cost accounting system, analyzing actual costs, preparing month-end reports, and GL reconciliations.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Maintain standard costs in the Syteline system. Work with manufacturing plant to develop and maintain accurate standard costs

  • Calculate standard labor and overhead rates

  • Analyze purchase price, labor and overhead spending and explain variances to senior management

  • Participate in the budgeting and forecasting process for department spending

  • Identify manufacturing variances from plan and forecasts, and root causes of obsolete and excess inventory

  • Work with engineers to estimate costs for proposed new products

  • Team with engineering to ensure standard costs database accuracy

  • Prepare journal entries, monthly inventory and variance reports, special reports, research data and interpret reports for managers

  • Monitor inventory cycle counts

  • Participate in gross margin analysis and product line P&L analysis

  • Support audit requests for inventory and costing for the manufacturing site.

  • Maintain accuracy of the COGS section of the Product Line P&L

  • Maintain reporting tools (FRx and Results) and establish new reports on request

  • Review all projects nominated for posting and ensure that all costs are being recognized related to the revenue being posted

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance

  • 5 years' experience in a cost accounting environment

  • 3 years' experience working with automated cost accounting systems

  • Working knowledge of MS Office including Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA and/or CPA
  • SAP or Syteline

Job Duties and Responsibilities: This role will support The USCA Architectural Coatings business, which is a large, complex business. The USCA Accountant will get involved in many aspects of the business to ensure proper accounting treatments. Ad Stock Accounting Responsibilities: * Manage accounting and analysis for Glidden Supply Company Ad Stock Trial Balance Location * Analysis and calculation of intercompany markup pricing * Ad Stock Expense and Inventory Amortization Schedules * Ensure proper transfer of ad stock expense across intercompany locations * Collaborate with Marketing Finance team in estimating ad stock purchases, consumption, and expense * Provide ad hoc analysis and reporting as needed to support finance and accounting functions Stores Accounting Responsibilities: * High volume transactional accounting and research as it relates to GRNI and In-Transit accounts * Utilizing T-recs for high volume account reconciliations and research * Researching and coding credit memos for payment processing using the credit memo workflow (return to vendor process) * Replenishment and invoices in edit research and troubleshooting, as necessary * Monthly journal entries (reclass entries, account recon adjustments, etc.) * Daily new sku review * Assisting with process improvements to streamline and simplify processes * Responsible for ensuring timely completion of month end closing process * Perform monthly reconciliation of high risk/key general ledger accounts utilizing Trintech * Ensure the company's assets are adequately safeguarded through the development and implementation of effective internal controls within a prescribed SOX environment Minimum Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance from an accredited institution * Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position Preferred Qualifications: * Knowledge of accounting principles and internal controls * Strong analytical and problem solving skills. * The incumbent must be able to multi task and drive efficiency within the team. * Strong PC skills with database and spreadsheet applications. * Be able to work in a team environment.
