The Sr. Cloud Engineer is responsible for the design, deployment, operation and maintenance of cloud solutions. The primary responsibilities includes integrating new cloud services (applications and infrastructure) into the organization's portfolio of internal systems and existing cloud services. The role collaborates with technology brokers and external providers to understand new cloud services and integration technologies and their implications for the organization. The role also collaborates with enterprise application architects and engineering business partners to ensure new cloud services align to roadmaps and to understand the effect on the organization's engineering capabilities.
Provide Engineering teams with standards and best practices on how to deploy and consume public and hybrid cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
Subject matter expert experienced in implementing and managing AWS workloads, virtual environments from the ground up
Collaborate with Infrastructure, Architecture, Operations, Information Security teams to incorporate compliance requirements and best practices
Collaborate with developers to ensure that cloud-native workloads are deployed according to IT best practices for security, governance, identity and access management, monitoring/auditing
Hands-on experience with servers, storage, networking, virtualization and cloud technologies as well as orchestration and automation
Implement hybrid IT by integrating different cloud services with back-end, traditional data center services
Recommend and plan for future growth and optimization taking into consideration capacity planning, monitoring, disaster recovery and business continuity
Agile provisioning of cloud compute, storage and network resources
Perform requirements analysis, translating business needs into cloud resource specifications
Maintain systems security and integrity, taking corrective actions as necessary in compliance with company and industry standards and best practices
Develop and maintain compliance documentation and architectural diagrams for use in the installation, configuration, operation, maintenance and support of the cloud infrastructure
Provide proactive and reactive support on issues relating to the cloud and virtual environments
Analyze and articulate the risks, benefits and opportunities associated with any change within the infrastructure
Contribute to improvement of administrative and operational processes
Participate in on-call rotation which may include nights, weekends and holidays
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science/Engineering or a related technical field and 5-7 years of work experience, or 8+ years of relevant experience without a bachelor's degree
5+ years of hands-on experience with cloud technologies from AWS and/or Azure
Demonstrated technical leadership in a 500+ user/VM/cloud environment
In-depth, practical experience with cloud methodologies (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), automation, orchestration, trends and industry-leading cloud vendor offerings
Hands-on experience designing and deploying AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, KMS, IAM, and API Gateways
Experience with High Performance Computing cloud services to support scalable digital engineering, data analytics, AI/ML and modern software development
Experience with container technologies like ECS, Docker and Kubernetes
DevOps and Infrastructure automation like Ansible, Terraform and Cloud Formation
Solid understanding of networking concepts, TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs, LDAP, HTTPS, VPCs and IPSec/SSL VPN
Proficiency in modern scripting languages for automation of systems administration tasks
Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and technologies like Gitlab and Jenkins
Experience with SSL certificates, encryption and STIG security hardening methodologies
Knowledge of NSX, vSAN, CloudLink and vSphere Cloud Automation desirable
Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task
Ability to work efficiently and independently with minimal supervision and willing to stretch to meet dynamic deadlines
Experience in DFAR/NIST/CMMC compliance documentation and technical controls a plus
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including clean and accurate technical documentation and project management aptitude
AWS certifications a plus
One or more professional certifications such as Network+, Security+ or CISSP preferred
