Job Description:

General Responsibilities:

Perform special projects or tasks in a timely manner, as assigned by Team leader or Management. The role requires an understanding of Cloud Technologies and Services, Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban), and IT Operations based on ITIL Framework. The role's primary focus is to provide build and operations expertise with a high focus on automation in areas such as performance, monitoring, logging, security, backups/HA/DR, compliance, and ensuring the operations processes and standards are maintained in production. Other duties include documentation and service request fulfillment.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform database troubleshooting of various types of issues, including performance, stability, and operational.

  • Models/implements preventative and proactive monitoring in the database environment and provide it to application teams.

  • Collaborates with projects teams and assists with design, execution, and implementation of projects requiring database deliverables.

  • Develops capacity forecasts based on utilization of the database environment, including storage.

  • Assists with the creation, implementation, and enforcement of enterprise standards around database technologies.

  • Support automation solutions for source, deploy, pipeline, configuration management

  • Work with development and product management teams to transition and operate cloud-based workloads

  • Continually review and recommend improvements to operational processes and procedures

  • Look for opportunities to automate anything and everything

  • Ensure Monitoring and Alerting Standards are tested in transition and followed in production

  • Ensure migrated workloads maintain compliance with Security and Governance standards

  • Ensures the health of the service meets defined service level expectations

  • Participate in incident management and communications, including follow-up with problem resolution post-mortem, and process improvement

Qualifications:

  • Ability to apply critical thinking to all aspects of the position

  • Detail oriented with excellent documentation skills/methodologies, who is able to successfully manage multiple priorities

  • Experience with AWS and GCP, certification desires

  • Experience with Enterprise ITIL Processes

  • Excellent organizational skills, and oral and written communication skills

The Cloud Optimization Engineer will provide build and operations expertise with a high focus on tying together data and cloud resource needs from various disparate systems in order to maintain a comprehensive model of the usage of cloud resources. This role's primary focus is to utilize available data and trending information in order to improve efficiency and performance across product lines. Other duties include implementing policy, procedure and control; documentation; and service request fulfillment. Responsibilities: * Develop strategy and automation to maximize resource utilization and minimize costs * Work with software engineers, data engineers, and data scientists to understand enterprise usage of cloud computing services * Monitor and visualize cloud usage by tag, service, and other attributes by building new tooling and leveraging existing tools such as Splunk, Stackdriver, and New Relic * Automate data collection and create real-time dashboards for technical teams and leadership * Look for opportunities to automate anything and everything * Maintain a data warehouse containing cloud resource utilization and cloud billing details * Assist with cost analyses, forecasts, and recommendations to leadership on a monthly basis * Continually review and recommend improvements to operational processes and procedures * Continually improve the state of shared infrastructure and tooling * Drive towards simple, scalable solutions to difficult problems * Help the team adopt technology and methodology * Contribute to best practice with written documentation and stand-ups * Ensures the health of the service meets defined service level expectations * Participate in incident management and communications, including follow-up with problem resolution post-mortem, and process improvement Skillset: * Experience with DevOps related automation tools to include, but not limited to: source mg(GIT, CodeCommit); continuous integration (Jenkins, Jarvis), application configuration management (Chef, Puppet, Ansible) and container management tools (Docker, AWS ECS) * Systems administration expertise (Windows, Linux) * Scripting technologies (Powershell, Bash, Python) * Enterprise Monitoring Tools for infrastructure and applications * ITIL Foundations and Intermediate Level Transition, Operations, and Continuous Improvement * Enterprise ITSM and CMDB Tools * Data Networks – routing, firewalls, load balancers, DNS * Databases – relational and NoSQL * Storage architecture and technologies * Security – Access Management, Key Management * Cloud Architectures * Automation in a cloud environment – Infrastructure as Code, especially using AWS * Experience with core cloud services * Experience with billing, cost management, and data visualization tools such as BigQuery, Data Studio, Cost Explorer, Reserved Instances, and Spot Instances * Experience with CloudFormation * SDLC and Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment concepts * Risk, Security, and Audit compliance Qualifications: * 1 Year of experience with AWS, certification desired * 1 Year of experience with GCP, certification desired * 1 Year of experience with public cloud billing * 1 Year of experience with reporting analysis tool preferably Cloudability * 3 Years of experience working with large datasets * 3 Years of experience with Enterprise ITIL Processes * 3 Years of experience with enterprise ITSM or ticketing system * 3 Years of experience with monitoring enterprise systems * 3 Years of experience in data center domains (server, network, storage, security) * 3 Years of experience with server and directory service technologies (Windows, Linux, AD, DNS) * AWS or GCP Certification: SysOps, Big Data, DevOPs or Solution Architect * Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, or equivalent experience * Strong grasp of technology principles, an analytical mindset, and modeling skills to be able to analyze business technology needs and translate the concepts into solutions leveraging cloud technologies * Excellent organizational skills, and oral and written communication skills * Security compliance experience such as ITIL, PCI, ISO 27001 or SOX * Ability to work with minimal supervision, making decisions based upon priorities, schedules and an understanding of business initiatives * Ability to apply critical thinking to all aspects of the position * Detail oriented with excellent documentation skills/methodologies, who is able to successfully manage multiple priorities Cardinal Health is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
