Description:

The Sr Business Development Analyst, Low Carbon Initiatives is charged with analyzing data, both quantitative and qualitative, to help contextualize business opportunities and validate investment decisions for CO2 removal/reduction projects to support Low Carbon Initiatives' goals.

Essential Functions

Duties of the Sr. Business Development Analyst, Low Carbon Initiatives include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform financial modeling to support project/business investment decisions. Become the internal expert on valuation methodologies for the carbon removal technologies employed by Low Carbon Initiatives. Maintain constant communication with tax/accounting/treasury to solicit and maintain modeling assumptions guidance from relevant disciplines

  • Track and analyze CO2 offset markets and pricing to inform on business opportunities. Maintain close communications with carbon offset exchanges/trading platforms to stay current with market transactions

  • Support drafting of documents and management presentations for internal discussions/communication

Education / Language

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Data Science or related discipline

  • English/Spanish bilingual preferred

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in modeling, preferably some experience with financial models

  • Strong analytical and computer skills (Excel, etc.)

  • Fundamental understanding of accounting, valuation theory, methodologies, and application

  • Ability to work cooperatively with all levels of staff

  • Excellent verbal communication skills

Travel

Some travel may be required to support some business activities.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

This role will be based in our downtown Houston office. This role will report to the Team Leader for Low Carbon Commodities and will be responsible for growing our coverage of Methane Performance Certificates, as well as exploring other low carbon gas opportunities across the Americas.</p><p>The Impact: The global Carbon Pricing Team sits within the larger Energy Transition Group at S&amp;P Global Commodity Insights and is responsible for developing and publishing key Platts benchmark assessments for the Voluntary and Compliance Carbon Markets, as well as working directly with both internal and external stakeholders in the development of low carbon benchmarks and carbon intensity methodologies across a wide array of differing commodities.</p><p>What's in it for you: This position presents an opportunity for a reporter to take an early lead in methodology growth and development in one of the most exciting spaces in the commodity markets. <br><br> Not only will a successful candidate have the opportunity to drive the development of new benchmarks from the start they will also have a unique opportunity to quickly become a sought-after subject matter expert in an area of Platts' growing Energy Transition coverage that is critical to the future of natural gas production, not only in the US, but globally. Maintaining Commodity Insights' competitive edge in this rapidly evolving space is of highest priority. The team is small and close-knit, which will provide the successful applicant with opportunities to travel and to speak at high-profile conferences and Commodity Insights events.</p><p>Responsibilities:</p><ul><li><p>Assess and publish the MPC price and market rationale daily while developing new sources in this rapidly growing market.</p></li><li><p>Review and manage industry feedback on market and methodology issues in the Low Carbon Gas space including, but not limited to Methane Performance Certificates, Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) and Producer Certified Gas (PCG).</p></li><li><p>Ensure a consistent implementation of the methodology in daily assessments as well as providing clear communication of the methodology both internally and externally.</p></li><li><p>Contribute to news coverage in the Low Carbon Gas space, and stay on top of new developments in this rapidly developing market to ensure.</p></li><li><p>Manage external engagement activities and serves as subject matter expert.</p></li><li><p>Ensure adherence to the IOSCO Principles for Price Reporting Agencies, working with the Market Assessment Quality team.</p></li></ul><p>What We're Looking For:</p><ul><li><p>Degree educated with at least one years' experience of reporting, analysis or editorial experience.</p></li><li><p>Proven public speaking abilities. This position will provide a number of different opportunities to present Platts' existing and future Low Carbon Gas methodologies to audiences both large and small.</p></li><li><p>Ability to work to intra-day deadlines in high-pressure environments. Our processes are daily and we have frequent intraday deadlines. Demonstrating success within the team depends on excellent time-management skills.</p></li></ul><p>Grade/Level (relevant for internal applicants only): 09</p><p>The Location: Houston, Texas</p><p>Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only):</p><p>S&amp;P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $49,400 to $98,200. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual's geographical location as well as experience and qualifications for the role.</p><p>In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.
