Dexcom is hiring for a Sr. SW Development Engineer - Build and Release to join our team in Portland, OR. In this position, you will be moving our existing build and release environment towards continuous integration, in support of mobile applications to help improve the lives of people with diabetes. You will be joining a well-established company that's on an upward growth trajectory.

This is a senior role that requires strong knowledge and experience building mobile apps. Familiarity with most of these tools are a must: Gradle, Ruby, Xcode, Python, Fastlane, Linux, Github, Bitbucket and Artifactory. This senior role will also be mentoring junior members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive and manage the build process, integrating it with Jira, Bitbucket, GitHub and other systems

  • Configure and build deployments using industry-standard tools (Docker, Jira, Maven, Bamboo)

  • Develop tools using Python/Ansible scripts for setting up and provisioning systems, continuous build integration using Bamboo, tests and reporting results

  • Implement continuous integration and build delivery to R&D organization

  • Optimize and improve build times and procedure through standard automation

  • Document procedures in building and deploying Bamboo projects

  • Profile build projects and implement optimization tools

  • Improve the reliability and performance of test and build processes

Required Qualifications:

  • Development experience in at least 2 of the following languages: Gradle, Ruby, Bash, Powershell, Python

  • 5 + years technical and hands-on experience building continuous integration systems

  • Strong Linux administration experience

  • Prior experience setting up and maintaining automated builds and deployments

  • Proficient in database SQL and database tuning

  • Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals and software engineering principles and processes

  • Self-motivated and able to collaborate with a diverse set of people from many disciplines

  • Ability to lead when appropriate and step back when necessary to help teams through triages, issues, and hard decisions

  • Eager to collaborate, learn and share with the team

  • Good communication skills

Functional Description: Technical Individual Contributor

Plans, designs, develops and tests software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products including cloud-based or internet-related tools. Analyzes, designs, programs, debugs, and modifies software enhancements and/or new products used in local, networked, or Internet-related computer programs. Using current programming language and technologies, writes code, completes programming, and performs testing and debugging of applications. Completes documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.

Functional/Business Knowledge:

  • Possesses broad understanding of technical principles and theories. Ability to synthesize external data and research findings for application that may impact technical objectives.


  • Demonstrates successes in technical proficiency and independent thought. Works on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an indepth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.


  • Exercises good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

  • Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.


  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 5-8 years related experience or Master's degree and 2-5 years equivalent industry experience or a PhD and 0-2 years experience.
