GDIT is seeking a Backup and Storage Engineer to administer and enhance our backup and storage infrastructure. The position is in support of GDIT's contract with the Administrative Office of United States Courts Administrative Office Technology Office (AOUSC-AOTO) in Washington DC.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate must have prior experience designing, supporting, administering backup and storage technologies in an enterprise environment. The candidate will need to have excellent people skills, strong analytical skills for trouble shooting complex issues, and attention to detail. The position is part of the Engineering and Operations team consisting of engineers and a subject matter experts who report to Engineering Systems Manager. Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Performs daily backup and storage operations for ensuring backups are completed as scheduled and data replication between storage devices

  • Ensure that backup and restore procedures and execution meet contractually agreed

  • Service Level Agreements (SLAs), including Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and

  • Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) for different types of data

  • Conduct periodic data restoration tasks to ensure that the backup systems are functioning properly

  • Evaluate hardware and software, with the goal of improving and increasingly automating operations

  • Provide assistance with identifying incidents, diagnose and resolve problems, and assist with backup and restoration.

  • Develop recommendations in support of objectives and of storage/backup technology.

  • Debug hardware and software issues associated with storage/backup-related technologies, including SCSI, iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NAS devices and backup target devices.

  • Develop and maintain standards and procedures for storage/backup systems across a complex computing infrastructure.

  • Maintain technical awareness of developments within the storage/backup technology industry and evaluate the applicability of those developments to the infrastructure.

  • Point of contact for storage/backup vendors, coordinate vendor support for any problems escalated from support areas.

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining comprehensive documentation for multiple environments.

  • Report on performance and capacities and make allocation recommendations based on trending.

  • Participate in capacity planning and performance discussions and assist in development and execution of disaster recovery exercises.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Extensive experience with backup and storage technology in an enterprise environment

  • Knowledge of application of security settings and other commercial security best practices

  • Software and hardware troubleshooting skills to resolve issues arising from the backup and storage devices

  • Ability to multitask and function in a fast-pace environment

  • Experience with Windows Server 2012 R2 and/or 2016 operating system

  • Excellent customer support skills (In-person and on the phone). Excellent soft skills including a mastery of customer service theory and execution.

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Experience supporting Veritas Backup Exec. or NetBackup in an enterprise infrastructure

  • Experience supporting SAN and NAS infrastructure

  • Familiarity with backup target devices such as ExaGrid or Data Domain.

  • Experience utilizing and troubleshooting various backup protocols such as NDMP

  • Experience with LINUX operating systems

  • Knowledge of Remedy ticketing system

EDUCATAION/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited higher education institution

  • Eleven years of experience in Information Technology which include five of those years providing support in an enterprise backup and storage environment.

  • Certification in any of the backup technology
