What You'll Do

As a Senior Azure database administrator, your primary responsibility is implementing and managing the operational aspects of cloud-native and hybrid data platform solutions built on SQL Server and Azure SQL services. This includes overseeing the support delivery process, maintaining database solutions, and performing in-depth performance analysis to ensure optimal functionality.

In addition, you are expected to be a subject matter expert, working closely with application teams and providing comprehensive work planning and project management services. Your role involves engaging with these teams to align database solutions with their specific needs and requirements, ensuring seamless integration and efficient functioning of the overall data platform.

• Build, configure, and maintain MS SQL databases, configuration, patches, and backups in cloud environments.

• Monitor database platform health and performance and apply corrective actions to maintain high availability and peak performance.

• Assist developers with query tuning and schema refinement.

• Refine, script, and automate regular processes for continuous improvement, track issues, and document changes.

• Provide technical database expertise and solution delivery support for documenting and maintaining the performance and reliability of database solutions.

• Maintain and enhance engagement with business and IT partners to sustain service levels and high availability of database services.

• Acts as a source of direction, training, and guidance for less experienced staff. Approachable and leads by example.

• Provide 24x7 support and participate in on-call rotation for critical production systems.

• Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.

• Coordinate and implement planned database and database infrastructure changes, refreshes, and upgrades.

• Maintain database inventory information to ensure the accuracy of configuration management DB.

What You'll Bring

Preferred

• Experience administrating Microsoft SQL in an Azure environment.

• Experience scripting Windows and SQL Server

Minimum

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline and typically 5 to 8 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

• Broad technical expertise with deep technical knowledge in current versions of Microsoft SQL Server, SQL failover clustering, always-on availability group, and database replication technologies in the cloud.

• Working knowledge in general RDBMS, database tuning, SQL tuning, database statistics, and database upgrades.

• Solid working level understanding of Microsoft Windows Server OS, SAN, and NAS storage

• Experience scripting SQL DBA activities with PowerShell.

• Excellent communication skills - Able to effectively communicate, diagram, and document highly technical information in non-technical terminology (written and verbal).

• Makes well-thought-out decisions on complex or ambiguous database issues.

• Understanding of change management principles associated with sustaining high system availability and preventing change-related incidents due to human performance factors.

• Understands and applies project management principles when leading and directing work

• Works under minimal supervision while providing frequent status updates.
