Job Purpose/Summary:

We are seeking an independent and motivated Senior Associate Scientist to contribute to our discovery efforts. The candidate will be part of the Treg Biology group in South San Francisco. He will be responsible for designing and conducting in vitro immunology experiments, including various molecular and cellular immunoassays to support preclinical drug development efforts. The candidate will have to present data to the discovery group as well as other Sonoma departments. The ideal candidate will bring new ideas to the table around assay development for implementing our current technology, is welcome to think outside the box, and should be motivated to apply science-based concepts into new cellular therapies. The incumbent should be independent with knowledge and expertise in cellular immunology with the initiative to dive into a fast-paced new startup. The position requires a drive to provide an exceptional hands-on work and collaborate with internal colleagues.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Isolate and culture immune cells from peripheral blood, biopsies, and other sample types

Investigate phenotypes and functional statuses of immune and non-immune cells using advanced flow cytometry approaches, cytokine assays, and other methods.

  • Engineer and validate primary immune cells exhibiting predetermined characteristics, such as specificity, stability, and others, using various genetic modification techniques.

  • Collaborate with other scientists and other team members to design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments.

  • Maintain accurate documentation in form of ELN.

  • Proactively communicate data to the team and larger organization.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • BA/BS in immunology, cell biology, or a related field with 6+ years relevant laboratory experience

  • Demonstrated extensive experience in flow cytometry (instrument setup and QC, troubleshooting, tissue processing and cell isolation, cell staining for surface markers, cytokines, and transcription factors, acquisition and data handling, multiparameter analysis in FlowJo, proliferation analysis) is required.

  • Demonstrated extensive experience with cytokine analysis by flow cytometry, ELISA, Luminex, and/or MSD is required.

  • Extensive experience with cell culture, preferably experience culturing primary human immune cells is required.

  • Strong communication and data presentation skills

  • Proficiency in data analysis using Prism, Excel or equivalents.

  • Ability to independently generate, analyze, interpret, and present data to a team.

  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving, matrixed environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Industry experience (>2 yrs) strongly preferred.

  • Experience with gene-modification using lentiviral or similar techniques is a plus.

  • Previous experience and knowledge of IL-2 biology and regulatory T cells are a plus.

A typical workday of a member of discovery group would involve work in the lab where we generate and characterize the next generation of Treg cells therapy to treat and cure patients with autoimmune disease.
