Job Summary
The University of Michigan Health Information Technology and Service (HITS) Administrative Applications team is seeking a Senior Applications Systems Analyst/Programmer to join our team. The Business Applications team selects, integrates, and supports the vendor applications needed by Michigan Medicine and the University of Michigan Medical School to realize the mission of providing the highest quality in medical education, research, and patient care.
The successful candidate will collaborate with a team of product specialists, business systems analysts, project managers & other technical professionals to deliver and maintain a healthy portfolio of enterprise applications. You will identify issues, propose solutions, and communicate risks directly with technical management or other responsible entities to ensure a fully integrated solution across multiple work streams.
This role will support implementation and maintenance of patient safety technologies, I.E., Securitas, Infant Protection, Staff Protection, and Asset Management at University of Michigan Health.
Responsibilities*
- Develop strong understanding of Michigan Medicine applications and how they facilitate business and business operations.
- Adhere to defined healthy application and quality assurance standards, breakdown complex application configurations into detailed specifications and provide expert-level assistance in trouble-shooting application issues.
- Plan, engineer/configure, implement, perform quality assurance for IT system solutions that improve business efficiency and productivity as well as support business strategies and goals.
- Formulate and define system scope and objectives based on technical specifications, requirements, and user needs.
- Perform application installation/upgrades/maintenance of applications to serve new purposes or improve workflow.
- Lead technical evaluation of products/ tools (Healthcare Security Applications, off the shelf and on-premises, in the cloud) to ensure that the proposed solution adheres to Michigan Medicine technical standards and requirements, adapts to new and changing requirements and configurations.
- Collaborate with other technical team members (ie. BSA/Sys Analysts) to ensure best practices, standard methodologies and processes are executed.
- Provide technical assistance in drafting RFPs, specifically validating that Michigan Medicine technical standards are well defined and adhered to.
- Resolve variety of high impact technical problems/projects through in-depth evaluation of complex business processes, system processes, complex integrations, and industry standards.
- Perform and support feature updates, version updates, security updates, and infrastructure updates including documentation describing incremental development and modification.
- Develop and maintain clear and comprehensive documentation to describe technical solution design and architecture, system integrations, data flow.
- Perform on-call rotation including responsibility for non-business hours, weekend, and holiday production systems support.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of progressive IT experience in a complex environment.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this position, employees may remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time; those in this position regularly move and traverse great distances while traveling to and from our customer locations. Person in this position will work around obstacles and confined spaces while troubleshooting and installing computer equipment. Staff will occasionally ascend and descend stairs and ladders. Must be able to travel or transfer equipment to and from different buildings throughout the campus and off-site locations weighing up to 50 pounds with or without accommodations.
Desired Qualifications*
- BA/BS degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 5-7 years of experience as a Systems Analyst, Programmer, Systems Administrator, Systems Integrator, or related role.
- Experience working with academic medical and/or healthcare environments.
- Experience in IT Infrastructure (Windows Server Platform) and cloud technology (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) relative to application platforms.
- Comprehensive understanding of IT security best practices and threat protection.
- Ability to learn implementation and configuration of proprietary technologies such as edge compute devices, sensor devices, network devices.
Work Schedule
This is a day shift position, working Monday - Friday. In addition, on-call rotation will be required for this position including responsibility for non-business hours, weekend, and holiday production systems support.
Work Locations
This position will work in a hybrid capacity, with the exception of on-site work at various Michigan Medicine medical campus facilities and typical work assignments involving technology implementation and application issue support. You may also be required to work onsite for meetings and training.
