We're Dexcom, a Diabetes healthcare company that transforms the lives of people (including young children) living with diabetes. Join our Clarity software development team located in downtown Portland. The team is smart, driven, and growing.

As a Senior Software Engineer working on our Clarity team you'll help us develop, host and deploy modern native mobile and web-based applications to help patients and healthcare professionals manage diabetes. We ask all our engineers to generalize across the products/technologies we support as well as specializing deeply in one or two particular areas. For this position we are looking for demonstrated strength in Android native application development.

  • Android native applications

  • Kotlin

  • Working with medical products or working in a regulated industry

Education and Experience Expectations:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 5-8 years related experience or Master's degree and 2-5 years equivalent industry experience or a PhD and 0-2 years experience.

  • At least 5 years software development experience

Functional Description:

Plans, designs, develops and tests software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products including cloud-based or internet-related tools. Analyzes, designs, programs, debugs, and modifies software enhancements and/or new products used in local, networked, or Internet-related computer programs. Using current programming language and technologies, writes code, completes programming, and performs testing and debugging of applications. Completes documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.

Functional/Business Knowledge:

  • Possesses broad understanding of technical principles and theories. Ability to synthesize external data and research findings for application that may impact technical objectives.

Scope:

  • Demonstrates successes in technical proficiency and independent thought. Works on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an indepth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

Judgement:

  • Exercises good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

  • Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: As a dedicated member of the New Markets organization, the Sr. Software Development Engineer will: * Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 5-8 years related experience or Master's degree and 2-5 years equivalent industry experience or a PhD and 0-2 years experience. * Design and develop desktop client software * Write automated tests to accelerate development and prevent regressions * Collaborate with test team to debug software * Document specifications and design * Assist in technical support of product by diagnosing customer problems * Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications: You'll be great in the position if: * You have experience with C# Windows Desktop Developer (e.g., WCF, WiX, etc.) * You're comfortable consuming APIs and interpreting results. * You believe that good testing is critical to create good software. * You prefer working in a collaborative, team environment and have the strong communication skills necessary for effective teamwork. * You enjoy working with others in person. * You can effectively manage your time and are comfortable supporting and coaching others.
